Department Name/Job Location: This position is in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions: A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shiming Chen at Washington University in St. Louis to investigate how different mutations in the gene coding for the CRX transcription factor cause various forms of blinding photoreceptor diseases. This individual will work with a group of highly motivated young scientists to establish human retinal organoid models carrying disease-causing CRX mutations that will be used to decipher the shared and specific pathogenic mechanisms and develop mechanism-based treatment strategies. Interdisciplinary approaches involving both wet bench work and dry computational analyses will be used throughout the study, such as retinal cell biology, functional genomics, molecular imaging, and biochemistry.
