The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of USC is among the nationâs leaders in innovative clinical care, research and education of future physicians. Located three miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles at the Health Sciences campus, the Keck School of Medicine is home to 25 research-oriented basic and clinical academic departments. KSOM is in search of a full-time PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS EXPERT. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the position will plan, implement and manage marketing functions for the Keck School of Medicine of USC.   Job Accountabilities include: - Manages day-to-day marketing operations and supervises staff. Participates in development of marketing and sales goals, objectives, plans, and strategies. Assists in determining target markets.Â
- Develop Marketing and Communications strategy to tell stories that reflect the Deanâs key priorities.
- Â Interview faculty (mostly clinical and research), staff and students; write impactful press releases.
- Create media lists, build relationship, and pitch stories strategically to the media.
- Track results/impact of media coverage.Â
- Assist Dean with letter and speech writing, key publications, town hall presentations, etc.
- Plans, implements and manages department marketing activities. Determines marketing and sales goals, objectives, and strategies. Develops short- and long-range marketing plans.
- Designs and manages programs to promote department services and products within the Keck School of Medicine community to the general public, such as direct mail, publicity, community relations, promotional activities, and special events, etc.
- Develops, produces and distributes publications and other promotional materials for department marketing and public relations purposes.
- Develops and administers marketing budgets for department and/or on a project basis.  Â
- Develops and implements market research instruments or utilizes standard market research instruments to collect information necessary to market services. Plans and conducts surveys, as appropriate.
- Designs and produces marketing reports for department and/or Keck School of Medicine use.
- Screens and hires vendors needed to produce marketing materials and attain marketing objectives.
- Determines appropriate use of Keck School of Medicine, USC, and department logos, emblems and indicia.
- Develops and maintains marketing calendar. Determines schedules and deadlines for production and distribution of marketing activities and publications.Â
- Establishes and maintains contacts with internal and external marketing professionals and vendors.Â
- Establishes and maintains appropriate network of professional contacts. Maintains currency with professional organizations and publications. Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, etc. Represents Keck School of Medicine and department as assigned and appropriate.Â
- Develops and implements security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinates security activities with University Public Safety Department. Promotes and maintains standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintains knowledge of Universityâs crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensures dissemination of security related information to staff.Â
Education: Bachelorâs degree or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. Experience: Five (5) years of experience in marketing, publications, public relations, business administration, communication, advertising or related field experience. Knowledge of marketing best practices. Critical Competencies for Success - Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with all levels of staff and diverse individuals and groups coordinating and executing study activities.
