Unit Summary:
As an Inpatient Medicine unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center, we are dedicated to our patients by providing quality care with attention to clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, patient safety and positive outcomes. Team work and unity is a fundamental part of who we are and we utilize an interdisciplinary team approach along the continuum of care in an effort to provide balance for the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs for every patient and their family. Our interdisciplinary team consists of physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, nursing leadership, and educators. We make a difference!
Our Inpatient Medicine unit is located on the 5th floor of the Children's Hospital. We care for adults age 18 - 100+. Services include but are not limited to care of adult patients with a variety of medical diagnoses of the pulmonary system, gastrointestinal system, renal system, endocrine system, infectious diseases, circulatory system, neurological system, dermatological disorders, and rheumatologic disorders as well as palliative and psychiatric diagnoses
- 12 private bed Med/Surg unit
- 4 to 1 patient to nurse ratios
- Care partner and charge nurse
- Primarily served by the Riven Hospitalist team
JOB SUMMARY: Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Assists with day to day delivery of patient care.
- Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
- Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
- Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:
CLINICAL COMPETENCIES (NOVICE): - Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
CARE PARTNER PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Has limited experience or training working with clinical applications for patient documentation.
ENVIRONMENT OF CARE (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Has limited experience or training working with set up and maintenance of patient exam rooms, supplies and equipment.
PLANNING & ORGANIZING (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Appropriately matches equipment, and capital resources to task demands. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.
