Location: Hyde Park Campus Job Description: Unit-specific Responsibilities Grants and Contracts 1) This position is responsible for supporting the pre-award activities for all sponsored projects in the Department of Microbiology. 2) Works directly with faculty and research staff to seek new avenues for funding and new grant opportunities. 3) Interprets regulations and guidelines of multiple funding agencies with broad and complex guidelines for spending. 4) Responsible for timely and error-free submission of applications, progress reports, technical reports, Just-in-Time submissions, no-cost extensions, and agency-required re-budgeting. Human Resources 5) Supports staff hiring processes, including developing job descriptions, interviewing and reference checking, handling employment offers, and conducting orientation. Drafts templates and routine offer letters. Maintains appropriate human resources data and records, solving a range of straightforward problems using standard procedures. 6) Counsels employees on benefits and compensation. Coordinates with managers and senior colleagues to determine employee compensation. Analyzes data and prepares charts, graphs, and trend lines for management review with a moderate level of guidance. 7) Provides professional support to a unit's employee/labor relations efforts, including handling grievances, disciplinary warnings, and employee complaints. Academic Affairs 8) Supports the processes of hiring, appointment, reappointment, and promotion of all academic employees of the department, including tenured and non-tenured faculty, as well as postdoctoral scholars/fellows and academic visitors to the department. Unit-preferred Competencies 1) Knowledge of accounting standards and auditing. 2) Ability to analyze, interpret, and implement University policies and procedures. 3) Knowledge of various internal and external systems (AURA, Grants.Gov, eRA Commons, ASSIST). 4) Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 5) Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro. Preferred Qualifications Education 1) College or university degree in relevant field.
