Position SummaryThe American Economic Association Summer Program (AEASP), housed in the Department of Economics at Michigan State University, is seeking applicants for their Fellows Program for the period May 28 – June 26. Fellows will work closely with leading faculty of the AEASP for a four-week period in June and are assigned to one of four courses (microeconomics, econometrics, mathematical methods, or research methods), to assist in course design and implementation, conduct recitation sessions, lead study groups, mentor students, and assist the Professor teaching the class in other course-related activities. Teaching fellows will be working alongside prominent faculty and researchers in economics during the Summer Program. Fellows receive full room and board, reimbursement for travel to and from East Lansing, MI, access to MSU facilities, and a gross (before taxes) salary amount of $4,000 for June (to be paid on the last working day of June), which will be deposited to your bank account on the last working day of June. In addition, a payment for the period May 28-31, 2020 also will be paid in the June check. Fellows are employees of Michigan State University, and are encouraged to participate in all AEASP program activities, such as the AEASP Seminar Series, the Fellows’ brown bag series, and excursions to Detroit, and Chicago. Ideal candidates are talented and dedicated PhD students in economics or a related field, who understand the importance of a broad representation of backgrounds and viewpoints in the profession, and want to contribute to the goals of the program. Applicants should provide a CV (including academic background and teaching experience), two names of possible references (including contact information), and a cover letter indicating their subjects/fields of interest and their experience with statistical software and programs, such as Stata and R, and scientific word processing programs, such as LaTeX. Any applicants who are not U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents, and who have F-1 visa status must obtain CPT permission by no later than April 1 from his/her current University/College to be hired. If an applicant has J-1 visa status, permission MUST be obtained from his/her J-1 sponsor by no later than April 1. This is a residential program and as MSU employees, Fellows need to be on site at MSU to work with students and faculty for the duration of his/her appointment. All Students who are selected to become Fellows must provide a letter/email of support from his/her principal advisor or the director of his/her graduate program.
