The Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) has existed since 1977 for the purpose of fostering research collaboration between the UW and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). JISAO's research is at the forefront of investigations on climate change, ocean acidification, fisheries assessments, and tsunami forecasting. JISAO has an outstanding opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Arctic marine chemistry. This postdoctoral scholar will be mentored by scientists at NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL), where the position will be physically based, and join a research team working on collecting and analyzing Arctic carbon data in support of ocean acidification research conducted by JISAO and NOAA. The postdoctoral scholar will conduct cutting-edge research on the Arctic and Alaska marine carbon cycle including new technology development and ocean acidification monitoring. Major duties include:
This appointment is designed to provide postdoctoral experience for interested marine scientists in an interdisciplinary, collaborative laboratory setting as well as at sea, and will require excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
