Position Requirements

• Be licensed in (your state)
• Have an understanding that this position is central to the well being of the hospital’s present and future success in all areas
• Have at least 1 year small animal practice experience – will consider new graduates
• Take part and support the philosophy of clinical care
• Have the ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff
• Be up to date on current veterinary health care
• Have a professional attitude
• Have a developed drive to grow personally and professionally and help the growth of others
• Fulfill expectations to pursue, practice and seek client compliance for the highest standard of veterinary care.

• Be able to perform efficiently all common elective surgeries as well as some advanced surgeries
• Proficiency in soft tissue surgery at a level considered more advanced.  Total comfort in intestinal resection and anastomosis, splenectomy, and major trauma repair are expected.
• Expertise in current analgesia techniques
• Be able to induce and monitor anesthetized patients
• Have the clinical skills to perform emergency care
• Have leadership and managerial aptitudes
• Have proficiency in all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery
• Complete tooth extraction proficiency
• Experience in hyposensitization for atopy (or be willing to learn)
• Some experience in the use of nutraceuticals or supplements for a broad range of conditions (or be willing to learn)
• Some experience in the use of surgical lasers (or be willing to learn)
• Some experience in the use of BIPS (Barium Impregnated Polyethylene Spheres) or be willing to learn
• Be punctual
• Be fair and empathetic with staff and clients

• Ability to get clients to approve necessary services

Job Description

• Use the SOAP process to document medical records
• Perform computer data entry
• Process appointments in a timely manner
• Involve client during the physical exam by asking questions and expressing findings verbally
• Accurately diagnose using history, exam, and lab results
• Know what lab tests to perform and where to submit them
• Follow practice’s preventative medicine protocols
• Provide proper treatment and care for hospitalized animals
• Provide adequate nursing care with technician
• Perform routine surgeries and some advanced surgeries (above)
• Perform complete physical exam every time
• Give injectable and inhalant anesthesia and monitor patients
• Take an active role in the quality control and the accountability chain of the support staff hospital as requested by the manager or CEO
• Return clients’ calls in a timely manner
• Be courteous when interacting with clients and staff
• Review medical records prior to exam (CC, prior medical history)
• Connect with clients and bond with them
• Know and discuss with clients comprehensive pet’s well being needs
• Perform minimum standard clinical work up and care
• Enter all necessary reminders if client does not commit to the service
• Engage in regular self improvement for performance optimization
