Providence Health and Services is a large integrated health care system committed to excellence through compassionate delivery of care. The Oregon Region includes two 500-bed tertiary care teaching centers (that serve as primary sites for the residency program), six community-based hospitals, home infusion services, specialty pharmacy services, managed care services, geriatrics clinics, and over 100 primary care medical clinics in and around Portland. The inpatient pharmacy departments provide a complete scope of decentralized progressive services. Pharmacy services throughout the system are committed to the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including integration with the health care team and participation in a variety of collaborative drug therapy management protocols. Our Primary Care Pharmacy Services and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program have been recognized for their innovative practice through ASHP Best Practice Awards. Providence is dedicated to providing safe and effective medication therapy across the continuum with a commitment to excellence in patient-centered pharmacy care. Our residency program is a recipient of the ASHP Pharmacy Residency Excellence Award. Providence Health and Services in Portland offers a unique approach to residency training through regionalization of our residency program. The resident is provided with an opportunity for rotations throughout our integrated health system, accounting for more than 1000 inpatient beds as well as exposure to ambulatory care, home infusion, specialty pharmacy, and managed care services. Residents participate in a wide variety of rotations, work with interdisciplinary teams, hone practice management techniques, and participate in delivering advanced pharmaceutical care. Specific strengths of the program include administration, ambulatory geriatrics, anticoagulation management, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, global health, home services, infectious disease, informatics, internal medicine, managed care, oncology, pediatrics/neonatal care, primary care, and specialty pharmacy. Residents participate in CityWide Residency Conferences, have the opportunity to pursue the Oregon Pharmacy Teaching Certificate (OPTC) with local Colleges of Pharmacy, and gain valuable leadership and practice management skills. Providence residency programs are built upon a tradition of excellence and commitment to developing leaders within the pharmacy profession.

Eligibility for Oregon pharmacist licensure required. Application through PhORCAS must include letter of intent, college transcripts, curriculum vitae, and three completed recommendation forms within PhORCAS from references. Please encourage references to provide detailed comments on the recommendation form. Please note: There are two large medical centers (~500 beds) that serve as primary sites for the residency program. Applicants must apply to either Providence Portland Medical Center (NMS 158213) or Providence St Vincent Medical Center (NMS 158221) or apply to both sites separately through the National Matching Service. |
