• Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials (the specialty-specific credential is only valid for that employee’s department).
• The RHIT or RHIA (or eligible) certification in health information management may be recognized in lieu of a coding credential and does not require experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for timely filing of Appeals to Insurance Companies, participates in special projects, investigates low payments and other payer issues. Performs advanced Appeal activities. Handles discounts, adjustments and charge corrections.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversees Appeals Process and participates in completion of advanced Special Projects.
2. Performs Charge Corrections, handles discounts and  adjustments.
3. Researches coding inquiries, payer policies and processes.
4. Reviews remittance advises for rejection and accuracy of payment amounts.
5. Responds to issues, questions and requests from Insurance companies and various WU or Department Staff.
6. Assists with IDX system issues and set up.  
7. Addresses issues with Reimbursement Manager and the Billing or Compliance Supervisors. 

Other Functions:

1. Supports clinical & customer service units in answering billing and collection questions.
2. Acts as back-up support for Coding Staff during peak times, vacations and illnesses.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Working knowledge of computers, general office equipment, telephone console, medical terminology, collection techniques and communication skills that involves dealing with confidential information.   
• Two or more years of working with medical appeals and/or coding.

This position is in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.  This position is for the Medical School Campus.

This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

This position is grade C09.

The hiring range for this position is $20.83 - $26.06 per hour.
