The Animal Health Diagnostic Center's (AHDC) mission is to improve the health of food and fiber producing animals, companion animals, sport and recreational animals, exotic animals, and wildlife. These activities protect and improve public health, promote environmental stewardship, and foster economic growth.

The Bacteriology unit of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center provides high quality, detailed, and complete diagnostic testing services to veterinary clients and agricultural producers, in addition to contributing to the education of undergraduate and graduate students. In partnership with Quality Milk Production Services (QMPS), the Bacteriology laboratory assists to serve the dairy industry of New York State by providing diagnostic testing to promote herd health and the production of high-quality milk.

What you will do:

As the Bacteriology Operations Manager, you will leverage your ability to effectively collaborate and cooperate with two lab managers as part of a dynamic, innovative and committed management team for lab staff members who are dedicated to ensuring the health of animals and New York State dairy production. You will be a critical member of the Bacteriology team through your partnership with unit and organizational leadership to plan, monitor and report on the overall efficacy of fiscal, staff and process performance.

Serving as a key member of the team, you will also provide mentoring and constructive coaching to staff while also providing project management and coordination of the unit's efficiency and efficacy.

Additionally, you will:

• Monitor and positively influence the unit's success in serving internal and external clients.
• Work closely to support the unit director in diagnostic research efforts by providing data for decision making through routine and ad hoc reports.
• Provide financial direction overseeing the unit's operating budget and all financials, including inventory and equipment management and research costing.
• We want everyone to feel happy and engaged at work but sometimes employee relations issues arise, therefore you will effectively address moderately complex operational issues, lead personnel management and coordinate human resource and employee relations matters such as performance feedback, recruitment, hiring, conflict resolution, advising on interpersonal difficulties and disciplinary actions.
• Lastly, this is a big job but you won't have to go it alone! You will partner and collaborate with unit leadership, AHDC leadership and CVM Human Resources on particularly complex matters.

• Bachelor's degree, with at least three years of administrative management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in general accounting principles and management of complex systems, including budget preparation and monitoring.
• Excellent judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to understand all aspects of a situation.
• Proficiency with a variety of computer programs, and the ability to quickly learn new software.
• Proven experience in project management.
• Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate across levels and develop excellent working relationships with the ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Effectiveness working in a fast-paced, complex, client-oriented environment that is collaborative and team-oriented.
• Excellent initiative and self-management practices to successfully oversee and organize competing priorities and deadlines; provide guidance on prioritization.
• Creative and strategic thinking ability with effective delegation skills, proven leadership and supervisory experience.
