The Pharmacy Manager - Information Services functions to lead all aspects of the services in the assigned team within the Department of Pharmacy. The person in this position manages informatics pharmacists, data analysts, and other pharmacy staff members as needed.  Activities include talent management and development, policy and procedure development, performance evaluation coordination, service problem identification and resolution, project management of informatics operational and clinical projects, participation in informatics and data analytics strategic planning, and quality improvement processes. The Manager develops and implements programs to monitor and evaluate the quality of services provided; to assure compliance with practice standards; and develops and implements the Department’s goals. Patient population includes neonatal, pediatric, and select adult patients. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Responsibilities

• Monitors the performance of the Epic Pharmacy System (Willow & Willow Ambulatory) to ensure that it appropriately supports the clinical and administrative needs of the department.  Manages Epic Pharmacy System software upgrades and corresponding hardware changes as needed.   

• Responsible for Pharmacy IS Team who will trouble shoot computer problems across Pharmacy IS continuum. Ensures system privacy/security consistent with hospital and national standards.  Responsible for maintaining downtime computer plans.

• Works with the national user’s group to upgrade capabilities of the system to support pediatric practice.

• Responsible for maintaining / supporting the inpatient floor stock and controlled substance storage and documentation systems, including the CareFusion PYXIS ES Medstation system, Swisslog Talyst machine, and Swisslog Boxpicker/IMS.

• Represents the Department on various hospital committees responsible for expanded computer support of patient care, financial, and administrative needs (e.g., Epic Medication Safety, Epic Change Control, Epic Clinical Advisory Committee)

• Works with the Director of Pharmacy Operations and Pharmacy Business Manager to develop pharmacy information services budget in consultation with Director of Pharmacy. 

• Evaluates new technologies applicable to all areas of responsibility. Recommend changes technology necessary to support department needs.  Develops justifications for the purchase of new/enhanced technologies/system components (e.g., personal computers, automated dispensing devices, etc.)

• Manages the activities of subordinate pharmacy support services staff. Prepares and administers annual performance appraisals for assigned staff; collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy Operations regarding hiring and, as necessary, termination decisions.

• Serves as a resource and/or preceptor for students, residents, and others seeking information about pharmacy administrative programs including an informatics and purchasing rotation.

• Participates in local, state, and national pharmacy organizations and/or programs related to pharmacy practice.

• Reviews new Pharmacy IS contracts and works with Legal Services to ensure appropriate contract approval.

• Coordinates with IS department to support hospital projects outside the primary pharmacy scope.
