Working/Functional TitleDiversity, Equity and Inclusion Assistant Director Position SummaryMichigan State University (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is committed to creating an environment in which every member of our community is seen, heard, and valued. Diversity, equity, and inclusion work is essential to that endeavor and is centric to CVM values. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Assistant Director serves as the administrator for the DEI within the Office of Admissions, Student Life, and Inclusivity (ASI). This academic staff member will have primary responsibilities for management and supervision of the DEI staff and activities related to creation of newsletter, social media accounts, website development, CVMDiversity emails, agendas for DEI committee, meetings, and day-to-day oversight of budgets (ESP Endowment, Grants, and DEI budget). The duties include, but are not limited to:
The Assistant Director will report directly to the associate dean for admissions, student life, and inclusivity at MSU CVM and will work with all constituencies in the CVM community, including administrators, professors, students, staff, and alumnae. The Assistant Director will implement the DEI goals in CVM’s current strategic plan and work collaboratively to shape future initiatives to expand the CVM’s work in equity and inclusion while focusing on reporting. Areas of emphasis include the recruitment and retention of diverse students, faculty, and staff; examination of the curriculum and co-curricular programs to ensure best practices around DEI initiatives; promotion of a culturally competent CVM culture. In addition, the Assistant Director will have direct supervision for the outreach and retention advisor as well as the business analyst. These team members are funded by a grant from the state of Michigan, King, Chavez, Rosa Parks program (KCP) which partners with MI K-16 students for the purpose of pipeline development into veterinary medicine, which is one of the least diverse health professions. In additional for oversight of the team supported by KCP, the assistant director will have direct responsibility and engagement with the CVM’s DEI Committee.
