Mission

The Pharmacy Practice Residency at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is dedicated to the development of caring, mature, professionally competent clinical pharmacists. The resident will develop the skills necessary to practice pharmacy efficiently, while delivering the highest quality of pharmaceutical care to the community, and remaining sensitive to the communities’ health care problems and resources.

Purpose

The Bayfront Health St. Petersburg pharmacy residency program will build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Program Description

The Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Residency Program prepares residents to become confident and competent clinicians able to effectively contribute to an interdisciplinary team in direct patient care. The program will prepare the resident to be accountable for providing optimal care to patients through educating healthcare professionals, patients, students, and the community on drug related topics. The resident will display a commitment to the profession of pharmacy, develop skills for continued professional growth and personal assessment, and exercise leadership to provide the highest quality of pharmaceutical care to the community while remaining sensitive to the communities health care problems, resources, and needs.

  • All Bayfront Health St. Petersburg residency programs participate in the ASHP National Matching Service for PGY-1 level residents.
  • Online application must be submitted through PhORCAS by January 5 of the academic year applied for.
  • Applicants must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
  • Applicant must successfully obtain Florida intern license and complete Florida state board examination prior to entering the program (or have ability to obtain Florida license by the start of the program).
  • Applicants must be able to commit to residency program for a one-year period.
  • Non-resident alien applicants must have a student visa valid through the end of the residency program. We do not sponsor any visas.

About Bayfront Health St. Petersburg
The ASHP accredited pharmacy practice residency offers training in pharmacy administration, cardiology, nutritional support, pharmacokinetics, critical care and internal medicine. The program is affiliated with multiple colleges of pharmacy and offers the ability to supervise and teach pharmacy students as well as an opportunity to participate in the University of Florida teaching certificate program. The residents present a formal project at the ASHP midyear meeting and Florida Residency Conference (FRC). Other activities in which the resident will participate are participating in P&T meetings/medical management teams, reporting of adverse drug reactions, and presenting drug use evaluations.
