This position is in the Department of Pediatrics.  This position is for the Medical School Campus.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for the management of processes related to charge capture, compliance and education in the Department of Pediatrics. This position is responsible for tracking compliance issues, trending results, and implementing focused improvement and education. Leads and manages coding staff. Serves as an internal consultant and resource for all matters related to billing compliance. Champions change related to coding and compliance issues.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for the all aspects of the coding and charge capture processes for inpatient, emergency department, various outpatient encounters:������

• Supervises coding staff to assure timely charge capture and to maximize revenue.
• Develops and implements charge capture processes. Tracks and monitors compliance with charge capture process and coaches staff as necessary.
• Ensures that coders are following correct coding guidelines and provides education and training as necessary to correct deficiencies.
• Works closely with Directors of Clinical Operations, Division Directors, clinicians and staff when new services are developed. Ensures charge capture mechanisms are effectively developed and monitors performance.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives focused on charge capture, collection and all aspects of the revenue cycle.
• Works closely with AR team and all those involved in the revenue cycle to ensure systems are effective and efficient.
• Works with departmental appeals staff to identify trends and develop solutions.
• Assures OPBC and Departmental compliance guidelines are applied to billed services.

2. Responsible for the departmental compliance education program in conjunction with Compliance Coordinator.� Serves as internal expert and champion for compliance issues.

• Designs, develops and implements educational programs for faculty and staff.
• Works in conjunction with Compliance Coordinator and Office of Physician Billing Compliance to ensure that educational programs are appropriately developed and delivered.
• Leads departmental implementation of solutions to compliance issues identified through risk analysis and audit processes.
• Ensures that all department functions are based upon federal regulations related to professional fee billing, including Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations for physicians at teaching institutions, American Medical Association (AMA) Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) standard coding rules, and the department and Washington University School of Medicine standards and policies.
• Routinely and randomly conducts internal audits. Develops action plans to improve identified gaps.

Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in a related field with five or more years of experience in supervision, preferably in coding and/or compliance.   

• Detailed knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. 
• Knowledge in ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding. 
• Knowledge of health care laws, CMS documentation and billing regulations and rules for third-party billing requirements. 
• Diverse clinical background with CPT coding experience. 
• Working knowledge of PC skills, including experience with Excel and Powerpoint. 
• Ability to work with physicians one-on-one and can effectively deliver educational sessions in small and large group settings.   

The hiring range for this position is $62,067 - $79,144 annually.
