Overview Mass General Brigham's board and system-wide executive leadership are making significant investments in enterprise data and digital health, enabling innovation and transformation in the delivery of health care, research and discovery. By building out core digital and data capabilities, we are supporting the achievement of Mass General Brigham's mission to drive growth and innovation in inpatient, ambulatory, and digital care. We are at the start of this journey and we are looking for talented individuals from across the nation to join us in transforming healthcare and in achieving the expected outcomes of this strategy: improved patient care, quality of care, patient engagement, and efficiency in the delivery of healthcare with excellence. In the achievement of these goals, Mass General Brigham's data and analytic teams are working together to build a system-wide data ecosystem. We are both leveraging current assets and building new, integrated solutions to provide a holistic set of industry-leading data and analytic capabilities, supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and real-time insights. Teams from Data and Analytics, Research Analytics, Clinical Data Science, and Information Systems are collaborating to build this new data and analytic ecosystem. To ensure success of this effort, Mass General Brigham is standing up a new Data and Analytics operating model with a goal of driving a level of standardization for data and analytic operations across the teams involved. The value of investments in data and analytics were proven out during our response to COVID-19 as these investments were leveraged to stand up new reporting and analytic capabilities to support executive and clinical leadership on managing the pandemic. Our broad data and analytic community has come together across Mass General Brigham 's 14 healthcare sites with shared urgency, delivering analytic tools to our system that drove timely insights in both clinical and operational domains, resulting in effective delivery of critical care and in organizational efficiencies during a time of reduced resources. Team Description The Payer Data Integration team performs data and content management for the Payer database within the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The primary content in the Payer database is information about Mass General Brigham (MGB) patients that have primary care relationship to MGB Providers. Health plans deliver monthly updates related to the patient's enrollment and claims activity. The Payer Data Integration team executes ETL code and QA functions to load and certify incoming data. The Population Health Management (PHM) organization is the primary stakeholder for the Payer database and provides direction and prioritization for new and enhanced features. Additionally, the Payer database is a critical data source for other EDW databases, enterprise reporting, and other analytics. The Payer Data Integration team employs high standards and best practices to deliver timely, quality content updates to support the needs of these consumers. Role Summary/Overview The Senior Data Engineer is a key member of the EDW Payer Data Integration team. This role will provide critical design and development consultation on the delivery of new and revised database features. The successful candidate will apply their knowledge, experience, and expertise enable the team to design and implement database functionality. The Payer Data Integration team leverages an Agile / Scrum development methodology. The Senior Data Engineer will create or assist the activities to create Agile stories representing the design, development, testing, key milestones, and other activity to support the delivery of new or revised functionality. This will include leading problem-solving discussion to technical problems. This role will also be responsible for code development on specific projects. Principal Duties and Responsibilities • Lead design sessions to interpret business requirements, evaluate options, and arrive at an efficient, functioning ETL solution • Facilitate the delivery of code revisions and enhancements from design through development onto installation in the EDW Production environment • Act as an escalation point to troubleshoot and solve technical challenges • Code, test, and implement new and revised features across many ETL systems • Lead code review and ETL Quality circle discussions to explore, discuss, and arrive at optimum solutions and best practices • Participate in planning upcoming product and tool upgrades • Perform research on consumer data problems and issues Qualifications • 5+ years of related professional experience including 3+ years in data warehousing development in large reporting environment(s) • Hands-on development experience with ETL tools, such as Microsoft SSIS, IBM DataStage, or Informatica • Experience working in Agile software development environment • Good communication and presentation skills • Proven ability to work independently Preferred Skills, Abilities, Competencies: • Demonstrated fluency in SQL and at least one scripting language • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities • Ability to juggle multiple projects in a high volume, fast-paced Production environment • Ability to identify process improve opportunities and areas of potential conflict • Familiarity with current healthcare and/or software development trends and industry practices EEO Statement Mass General Brigham is an Equal Opportunity Employer & by embracing diverse skills, perspectives and ideas, we choose to lead.
