The PICU is a regional referral center for all critically ill and injured children that operates 24/7. The primary purpose of the PICU is to provide optimal state of the art critical care nursing to any infant, child or adolescent who presents with a serious injury and/or illness. Care is provided for patients from birth to 18 years of age. Older patients are cared for on a case-by-case basis.

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. • External applicants- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
• Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred
• For experienced nurses : Minimum 2 years pediatric acute care experience or 1 year PICU experience (applicants with adult ICU experience may be considered)
• For new graduate nurses : A minimum of 180 hours of direct-patient care in an ICU practicum or similar setting completed within the last 12-months.
• Must have excellent communication and reflection skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team, and the flexibility to delegate, prioritize, and adapt in stressful situations.
• Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools
• Current unencumbered Oregon RN license by start date
• BLS (issued bythe American Heart Association) and PALS certifications by start date
• Annual Department specific education requirements include:
  • 4 hours of Trauma Education
  • Annual pediatric competencies

• 2 or more years of PICU experience
• Pediatric CCRN certification

Usual Orientation Time:

• Specialty Experience: 6-8 weeks
• Experience, but not in specialty area: 8-12 weeks
• New Graduate: 12-16 weeks
