DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solution providersstriving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. Working closely with campus financial management, the UCI Controller's Office is a trusted strategic partner divided into three core teams: Accounting & Fiscal Services, Procurement Services, and Financial Services. The Accounting & Fiscal Services team ensures the integrity of UCI's financial reporting, enables effective and efficient campus financial processes and controls, manages contracts and grants funding at the post-award stage, and champions compliance with policies, laws, and regulations. The Procurement Services team leads through best practices in the acquisition of quality goods and services by implementing processes and procedures that deliver high quality expertise, significant value, and excellent customer service. Finally, the Financial Services team provides support and resources to campus in the areas of billing, collections, payments, disbursements, loan administration, and student tax information. In all these areas, the Controller's Office is always dedicated to providing effective and efficient customer service in support of UCI's mission and goals. Loan Services is responsible for the administration and collection of the University's student loan portfolio, which includes both Federal and institutional loans totaling $25,112,464. Uses professional collection concepts in conjunction with mandated Federal and State regulations and policies. Ensures the University's cohort default rate is within acceptable limits to avoid penalties to the University. Works on complex accounts and recommends actions as appropriate to Financial Services management as well as Financial Aid, the Department of Education and the system wide loan servicer. Interprets and implements emergency policy changes mandated by UCOP. Compensation Range: $55,000-$65,000 Per Year Department Website: http://fa.uci.edu Required: 5 years higher education loan collections Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Working knowledge of student loan collections best practices. Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making. Ability to function effectively as a member of a team. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Skills to provide coaching and mentoring to support staff. Working knowledge of Federal Department of Education and State loan administration. Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software. Working knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures. Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems. Preferred: Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Special Conditions Required: Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings and/or weekends as needed. Completes the assigned training timely, and attends training workshops to enhance current and future career development. Participates in general staff meetings, campus workshops, and conferences. Must have a valid CA driver's license and participate in DMV Pull notice program. Final candidate subject to background check.
