UW Medicine Faculty Practice Plan Services (FPPS) supports UW Physicians (UWP), a practice group for more than 1,800 physicians and other healthcare professionals associated with UW Medicine. UW Medicine includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Medical Center - Northwest, the UW School of Medicine, Valley Medical Center, and Airlift Northwest. UWP members also practice at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a partnership of UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The Coding Business Analyst is responsible for daily activities related to analyzing, developing, implementing, and managing ongoing activities for electronic fee sheets, profee coding edits, Epic upgrade testing for the department, contested coding reviews, coding and documentation review for ad hoc report requests, training practitioners and staff on the above activities, and providing support to operational counterparts. This role acts as a central point of contact for coding projects and larger committee requests as it relates to testing and implementation in the system for optimal functionality. In addition to serving as experts in the respective content areas, coding business analysts will provide ad hoc reconciliation, audit/review, and education. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and maintenance of electronic fee sheets and ensures that all electronic fee sheets are updated timely to incorporate annual ICD-10 and CPT changes. • Provide coding expertise and quality assurance testing and monitoring for nCode development and maintenance. • Participates in cross-functional meetings as content experts for electronic fee sheet enhancement, Epic upgrade/enhancement, technical project/process improvement meetings as the content relates to edits, and large work group meetings. Develop and maintain educational material as needed. • Support EpicCare template development ensuring that templates built facilitate clinical care and compliant billing. Actively collaborate with Compliance educators in this process. • Review and complete Unknown WQ charges, contested Account reviews, and electronic fee sheet fall out lines (i) ensure queues are being worked timely and accurately, provide education on deferred charges, report concerns to department supervisors, and/or Director, (ii) identify trends, (iii) conduct root cause analysis of trends, and (iv) develop action plans for addressing trends. • Monitor Coding Vendor WQs; provide onboarding and training to vendor coders on internal procedures and guidelines; timely feedback on deferred encounters as vendor coders have questions. • Assist in the planning, preparation, and presentation of training for vendor coders, current coding staff, new employees, other UWP department staff or UW Medicine staff. • Assist in the implementation of coding guidance documents. • Manage and maintain Epic Edits Work Group. • As requested and in support of Coding Supervisors, research coding questions utilizing all appropriate coding resources. • Perform ad hoc coding reconciliation and audit/review. Create and execute education as needed. • Perform other duties, as assigned. CODING EDIT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: • Light programming, project management for systems-related projects, supervising or training of staff or providers, and being the equivalent of a trouble-shooter for computer problems beyond the knowledge of department staff. • Work in conjunction with the Applications Management/Project Management Office to provide overall basic system/edit coverage of primary computer systems utilized by the department. • Areas of focus would be in these areas: o Work Queues: professional billing charge review, claim edit, follow-up, account; charge router review, charge router error pool o Review of transactions and encounters for rule efficiency and optimization o Clear understanding of CCI edits as well as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding principles and guidelines • Submit technical SDM ticket, form, and edit/workflow requirements. Test, coordinate, and implement updates to coding and charge capture edits across the various work queues owned by Coding & Charge Capture. • Send out communications tailored to stakeholders and audiences. • Provide coding knowledge to check for accuracy and appropriate coding edits and rules; research and identify areas of improvement. Serve as a content expert for historical changes to edits. • Provide cross checks as part of coding leadership team, as directed by Director • Assist with writing / documenting edit reviews and answering inquiries and provide necessary support of edit reviews with substantiated, authoritative resources. • Act as a resource for coding leadership and external partners to explain review process to department requestors. • Responsible for conducting research and updating Director and Coding Leadership Team on possible new edits, CMS changes and payer policies • Assist with management team on design and in some cases, implementation of department guidance on new rules and edits. • Develop, manage, and maintain all testing scripts for projects, process improvements, and Epic Upgrades. • Follow-up with Applications Management Department on pending tickets. • Monitor and keep current on all Compliance policies and procedures that could apply to any edit requests. REQUIREMENTS: • 3 years with physician coding in a complex multispecialty environment. • 2 years of demonstrating interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to interact tactfully yet assertively with physicians and other professional staff • 2 years of demonstrating strong presentation skills and comfort in settings ranging from one-on-one communications to large groups; and good written and verbal communication skills for relaying technical information, processes, and procedures. • Coding Certification (e.g. CPC, CCS-P, etc.) required. • Experience in process improvement preferred. • Experience in an academic healthcare environment preferred. • Experience coding in a Teaching Physician environment preferred. • Epic Profee Billing system experience preferred |
