Dean of STEM and Education

Professional Non-Unit, 12-month Position

The Dean provides strategic leadership and direction for the Division of STEM and Education. Departments/Programs include: Animal Care, Aviation Sciences, Biotechnology, Computer and Informational Sciences, Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, Engineering and Industrial Technologies, Elementary Education, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Veterinarian Technology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises course and program development, including designating future academic directions for Division, recruiting new or existing faculty/staff to develop/revise courses and/or programs of study consistent with academic direction of Division; reviewing and presenting all curriculum proposals for Division approval and submission to the College Curriculum Committee.
2. Oversees activities associated with specialized external accreditation of programs of study within the Division, including self-study/interim report, site visit, and response to accrediting agency actions.
3. Oversees activities associated with internal and external program review, including program assessment and student learning outcomes; Department of Higher Education Performance Accountability Objectives and Indicators.
4. Develops schedule of day, evening, online and weekend credit courses (Master Schedules) throughout the calendar year, including soliciting departmental input on course offerings, receiving faculty input on their preferred schedule and courses to be taught.
5. Monitors course registrations and adjusts course offerings (adding or canceling sections).
6. Works with the Dean of Strategic Partnerships to advance early college, dual enrollment and articulation agreements to expand early college partnerships with local school districts. Collaborates with other academic deans and College personnel to implement trransfer academic pathways to expand transferability of credit.
7. Administers collective bargaining agreements for "Full-time and Part-time Day Faculty and Professional Staff", "Division of Continuing Education", and Classified employees, including workload assignment; evaluation; recommendations for hiring, re-appointment/non-reappointment, promotion, rank change, sabbatical, tenure, dismissal, discipline, evaluation, transfer, retrenchment; and participates in grievance procedures.
8. Directs, coordinates, encourages, and supports professional development activities for faculty and staff.
9. Fulfills designated responsibilities related to policies and procedures for student complaints, grievances, and grade appeals.
10. Organizes program-specific orientations; coordinates agenda with key faculty as well as with representatives of Student Services (i.e. Admissions/Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Student Support Center, Health Services).
11. Oversees Divisional budget and expenditures (i.e. grant-related, college appropriated, outside entity contracts) including requesting resources, hiring personnel, monitoring spending, approving purchases.
12. Manages implementation of Strategic Plan activities, including developing/reviewing goals/objectives for Academic Affairs Component, Division, and related Departments/Programs; monitoring implementation timetable; providing interim and final reports on status of accomplishments; assisting departments/programs with implementation.
13. Reviews and interprets career/market data, job availability, survey results, graduate placements, and other pertinent data to develop goals/ objectives/direction for the Division.
14. Promotes academic/divisional relationships with related community and national agencies, schools, businesses, colleges, and individuals, including NSCC advisory committees, employers, high schools, transfer colleges/universities.
15. Fosters collegiality within the Division and College, supports a learner-centered environment, and manages change to achieve a climate of openness, trust, and adaptability.
16. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Full and part-time faculty, professional staff, classified staff, and other individuals assigned to the Division

SALARY: Anticipated salary is $105,000 to $120,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.  Full time benefited employees at North Shore Community College are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package offered through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
