Position Summary:

The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, a unit of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), invites applications for a faculty position in health disparity and health equity with population health research experience or training. Health and social inequalities are observed at the individual, relationship/network, community/neighborhood, and societal levels, and are embedded in life course dynamics. The successful candidate will have research expertise on the social, cultural and structural determinants and/or observable manifestations of urban inequality at any of these levels. Topics could include, but are not limited to, disparities in health, income, transportation, or residence relating to race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, religion or other characteristics. We are particularly interested in researchers using innovative theory and quantitative methods that account for social and spatial context. Applicants with perspectives from clinical medicine, public health, medicine, nursing, psychology, demography, sociology, or other related fields in addition to geography are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must have a strong interest in building a population health research portfolio working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group of social scientists, behavioral scientist, clinicians and policy scholars and a track record or high potential for federal funding.
The successful candidate will develop a program of research in any of a number of potential areas of research in health disparity and health equity including, but not limited to, behavioral health, minority health, health equity, trauma exposure, violence, biopsychosocial behaviors in prevention and treatment, chronic disease management and health outcomes, and evaluation of health policy and delivery system initiatives. Research addressing population health, translational scientific research, and the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups is highly desirable, as well as experiences conducting CBPR in diverse populations and settings.

Minimum Education and Experience:

A doctoral or equivalent degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, public health, sociology, demography, policy or equivalent are strongly suggested. A strong theoretical grounding and quantitative and/or qualitative research skills with excellent oral and written communication skills to support developing a rigorous program of research is expected. A demonstrated record of successfully competing for research grants is desirable. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in the Institute for Health with tenure-track or tenured appointment within an appropriate Rutgers school or department with teaching, clinical, and/or mentoring responsibilities. Promising faculty will have substantial protected time do conduct interdisciplinary and translational research in an environment that is conducive for success. IFH has a strong history of training talented and eager faculty and trainees to success. Opportunity exists for appointment as a Chancellor's Scholar or endowed chair position as well as protective efforts and support during the early years of hire. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with scholarly achievements including funded research and publication record, as well as other relevant professional experience. Initial support for establishing a strong program of research will be provided with the expectation that the research program will be increasingly supported by extramural funds.
