Mechanical Design Engineer

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Facilities Division is offering an exciting opportunity to work with world leaders in science, and be a part of a team that will advance science and influence the world. The Mechanical Design Engineer will ensure mechanical engineering support across the campus and will possess technical engineering expertise, problem solving abilities, and strong mechanical system design capabilities. In this role you will plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for obtaining results. You will need to apply new and appropriate design approaches to solve the mechanical problems encountered. The role will also include providing design reviews of LBNL Projects for compliance with mechanical codes and standards as well as for constructability, operability, maintainability, reliability, and life cycle cost of the equipment. You will represent the Facilities Division as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for mechanical equipment and technical matters for which the Division has oversight and will ensure uniformity of compliance with Facilities Division policies, procedures and standards. Berkeley Lab is located above UC Berkeley, on 202 acres that house over two million square feet of state-of-the-art scientific centers and support facilities. The Lab's mission encompasses many scientific fields, and its buildings include supercomputing facilities, genetic sequencing labs, laser labs, microscope facilities, and office complexes. Thirteen Nobel Prizes have been associated with Berkeley Lab.
