Position Summary

The department of Pediatrics is seeking a Senior Clerk to join our front desk staff team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing coordination of services at the Front Desk.

Responsibilities

• Primary functions include: oversee the design, maintenance and implementation of integrated clinical registries, research and administrative data systems and to implement data analytics to ensure data quality, analyze quality of care, and provide statistical support for the pediatric heart center.

  Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates patient flow through exam rooms for testing procedures and appointments with physicians in conjunction with MAs and NYP Staff.
  • Checks patients in, ensures demographic and insurance information is correct.
  • Collects copays and other information from patients.
  • Ensures that all necessary information and documentation is collected from each patient at time of check in.
  • Performs patient reminder calls.
  • Answers front desk telephone, and assists with scheduling when asked by Managers.
  • Provides general office assistance, distributes mail, directs patients, and assists with filing/scanning as necessary.
  • Works with hospital/management to ensure tidy waiting room appearance.
  All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires two years of college or completion of secretarial school or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of one or two year's related experience. Bachelor's degree desirable. Also, some typing ability.

  • Work requires manual dexterity for handling charts and using office equipment - specifically the use of a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Must be able to kneel to retrieve files and supplies, and sit, stand or move around for extended periods of time.
