Pay Grade/Pay Range: 56 Hourly (non-exempt) - Minimum - $ 14.31 Midpoint - $ 20.83 Department/Organization: 224108 - WOW Normal Work Schedule: Hours will vary Job Summary: The Care Worker is responsible for the care and supervision of youth within a self contained residential treatment program. Additional Department Summary: This is a treatment program for female juvenile offenders located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The program is a 16 bed program that is administered by the Youth Services Institute through a management agreement with the Alabama Department of Youth Services. The Care Worker will ensure the maintenance of order and safety of program youth and staff. This person will work closely with program staff to maintain and promote safety in the therapeutic environment. This person will operate the surveillance equipment and use general supervisory techniques to monitor the daily activities of program youth and staff. Daily protocol related to entering and exiting the facility and access to locked areas within the facility will be part of the Care Worker's daily responsibility. In addition, they will conduct regular room checks to prevent unauthorized items being stored in living, education, and/or treatment areas in order to ensure youth and staff safety. The Care Worker will take measures to safeguard youth and staff from harm. This unique program offers a gender-specific treatment model designed to provide innovative and responsive treatment services for juvenile justice involved girls that will aid in their growth and reentry into their home community. Therefore, the Care Worker must utilize therapeutic skills and techniques learned during employee orientation and ongoing training. This person will also be responsible for modeling behaviors and techniques provided in training that promotes accountability among colleagues and youth regarding the safety standards, and complete information reports when safety violations occur. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, human development and family studies, criminal justice, nursing or education; OR High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of therapeutic, rehabilitative or behavior management experience. Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Skills and Knowledge: Ability to learn and apply various behavioral techniques related to the care and rehabilitation of adolescent females. Preferred Qualifications: One year of behavior management experience which includes work with delinquent youth is preferred. Experience in basic living skill instruction and documentation.
