UWM FINANCE TRANSFORMATION is seeking a a Limited Term Appointment - DATA CONVERSION LEAD to play a key role in the implementation of an enterprise-wide Finance and Supply Chain system, and the modernization of related business processes.

The UW Finance Transformation Program (UWFT) is a $270M initiative to transform the University’s financial systems and processes, including academic, administrative, and healthcare. The IT scope of UWFT includes replacement of legacy core financial systems with a SaaS solution (Workday) and rationalization of distributed financial systems, reporting, and integrations across hundreds of units.

UWFT will fundamentally change the processes and tools that the University employs to track, spend, collect, manage, and report University finances in excess of $7B in annual revenues, resulting in more timely and actionable information for leadership.

The Data Conversion Lead will have responsibility for supervising project staff and coordinating the activities of vendor and consulting team members.  This role will manage the technical activities of the project within the Data Conversion Team, to achieve the project's scope, quality and business objectives, within predefined schedule and budget constraints.

The Data Conversion lead will also be responsible for setting the strategy and plan in partnership with University to convert the necessary data to support business operations in the new system.  The converted data resides in multiple systems and will require significant coordination and testing both within UW Medicine and across the University.  Leveraging prior experience, the data conversion lead will minimize impact to finance and account operations and technical staff during this critical transition.
  
DUTIES:

This role will lead the organization in preparing for and executing the various data loads that will be required as part of the various phases of the implementation project.  This includes:

Data Conversion Process Design and Management

  •   Identifying data scrubbing and cleanup opportunities to begin during the readiness phase
  •   Identifying the various sources of existing data that will be incorporated into the new system
  •   Determining custodians for each existing data element and verifying with the custodian the correct location of the data
  •   Working with the functional owners of the data to define how the data will be used in the new system
  •   With the help of other technical resources, extracting data from existing systems
  •    Supporting a foundation data model converter with bulk conversions from legacy to Workday chart of account values
  •    Developing tools and templates to facilitate the extraction, capture and validation of data to be converted
  •   Working with the vendor to convert and upload the data into the new system on predefined intervals during the project
  •   Maintaining accurate records of design decisions made for conversions

    Team Leadership and Facilitation

  •   Build effective working relationships with project team members and key stakeholders, including the functional and testing team members, who will coordinate with the Data Conversion Lead in a matrixed relationship.  Conduct regular team meetings and meet frequently with project and business stakeholders.  Conduct annual performance reviews for direct report project staff.  Work closely with vendor data conversion resources to ensure the UW and vendor resources are working as a single team.

    Communication and Project Management

  •   Identify and articulate issues for escalation and contribute to project status reports and other key project deliverables.  Work with project management resources to ensure team activities are centrally prioritized and tracked. Leverage tools to manage conversion scope, design, validation and development feedback.

    REQUIREMENTS :

  •   Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related degree.
  •   Six years of increasingly responsible experience including project management and supervisory responsibilities.
  •   Ability to understand business and technical issues and alternatives, and facilitate problem solving and issue resolution within and across these modalities, including phases of fit-gap analysis, system design and configuration, security design, system integration, data conversion options, testing, training, reporting, requirements tracking, and business process improvement.
  •   Experience managing technical and testing, staff. Experience working with subject matter experts and business leads.
  •   Effective team building and motivation skills, including a proven track record of developing and building team member strengths, helping team members with challenges, and providing a supportive working environment to enable active employee engagement and optimal team performance.
  •   Experience acting as a collaborative and supportive member of a team to accomplish project goals.
  •   Demonstrated success in facilitating work groups.
  •   Ability to deal with trade-offs, conflict, and change management, in a collaborative and positive manner.
  •   Experience working with UW Administrative Systems at a technical level.
  •    Experience leading, developing, and analyzing data conversion system for a large ERP implementation.
  •   Ability to communicate clearly, in writing and in verbal presentations, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  •   Expertise with SharePoint, spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation application. 

    Equivalent experience and education may substitute for requirements.
      
    DESIRED

  •   Experience in a large university, large medical center, or other large complex enterprise.
  •   Experience representing and/or leading system development and implementation efforts across a large, decentralized enterprise.
  •   Experience with data conversion into Workday ERP products.
