Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director/Administrator with accountability to the Director of Clinical Education, this position is responsible for the PA Program (Physician Assistant Program) entire second year clinical curriculum, using a high degree of judgment to independently manage programmatic development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of curriculum. 

The Curriculum Coordinator leads, organizes and manages all program activities and initiatives, assesses the results, and recommends and implements changes.  Resolves complex issues and brings critical issues to the attention of the Program Director / Administrator, Course Directors, or Program faculty for resolution. This position may coordinate other curricula as needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

Curriculum Management:

• Manages the day-to-day administrative function of the entire clinical year curriculum; including all clinical rotations; Return to Campus (“RTC”) Days; exams/assessments/evaluations; and the Research/Capstone course.  Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Education and the Course Director for the Research/Capstone course in developing short- and long-term plans for the curriculum to meet program objectives. Analyzes and manages the implementation recommendations by faculty, students, preceptors and others.
• In collaboration with Course Directors, recruits faculty, guest lecturers, and "model" patients for core classes/panels; coordinates recruitment and retention of teaching faculty. Analyzes and reports on teaching contribution data in support of future selections process.
• Manages student and preceptor evaluation processes, including analyzing and summarizing course and unit evaluation data and student performance data to identify markers of success and failure. Contributes to discussions regarding improving the curriculum and student performance.

Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of courses:

• Coordinates the pre-planning, delivery, maintenance and evaluation of the clinical rotations and course curricula and actively participates in the curriculum enhancement and renewal process.
• Proactively provides guidance and advisement to faculty, students and staff to improve the teaching/ learning experience.
• Analyzes current effectiveness of curricula technology by reviewing evaluative data; recommends changes and/or additions to mechanisms for implementation, procedures, and upgrades to technology equipment and method of delivery.
• Proactively identifies potential problems and develops contingency plans for a variety of scenarios that have a significant impact on the development and delivery of the curricula and learning environment.

Policy and Advising: 

• Establishes standard operating procedures and documents appropriate procedures, instructions, and rules to share knowledge.
• Interprets School and course policies and advises students on expectations and options regarding assignments, test-taking, remediation, other significant requirements and general concerns.
• Fosters and maintains open and ongoing communication with students and acts in a proactive manner in providing guidance and advisement on a variety of topics.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding student information at all times. Involve the education counseling team when a student presents as being in crisis.

General Program Administration and Events: 

• Coordinates course information, operations, facilities and materials. Coordinates the compilation, production and distribution of all course materials and maintain the on-line course management site for courses (Blackboard) and various other educational databases/systems. Coordinates all educations space needs. Reviews exam questions; prepares and analyzes course-related exam reports. Administers exams and coordinates remediation efforts.
• Provides routine communication/support for students and instructors. Sends student and preceptor prompts for site evaluations; tracks evaluations in a timely manner.
• Oversees distribution of credentialing paperwork/student bio packets to primary preceptors to clinical sites for students completing various rotations. Ensures that the needs of the faculty and students are met, troubleshoots as necessary.
• Coordinates and processes payment for clinical year expenses.
• Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual course budgets. 
• Maintains student databases and tracking efforts and accurate and professional documentation on student and course-related issues, resolutions and developments.
• Responsible for all aspects of clinical year event planning; including RTC days, Research/Capstone Day and Graduation.

Miscellaneous:

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree + 2 years administrative experience;, preferably in an academic environment that includes working with students.

• Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal; includes presentation skills); ability to compose a variety of documents, including proposals for developing the program; must have the ability to interpret and communicate policies and effectively communicate to audiences.
• Ability to maintain strictest standards regarding confidentiality of all student information with dissemination only to authorized recipients. 
• Ability to provide responsive customer service; must enjoy working with students and faculty. This person will interact with and assist students, other support staff and senior members of the faculty of FSM; interact and assist visitors to the University.  
• Must possess highly proficient computer skills, including MS Office suite; and aptitude for learning new software. Professional business attire and demeanor is required (professional communication with applicants, students, visitors, staff, senior members of the administration and faculty of FSM is expected at all times).

Preferred Qualifications:

• A master’s degree in education, health care-related field or business and 2-3 years professional experience. 
• Experience working with graduate/professional students. 
• Knowledge of the physician assistant or medical school curriculum desirable.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

• Experience in developing presentations and public speaking.
