SUMMARY OF PURPOSE

The Director of Finance will provide a broad range of financial services for The Henry Ford which serves more than 1.8 million visitors annually with 1,700 employees, an operating budget of over $75 million, and an endowment over $350 million.  Collaborates with Vice President & CFO, Controller and senior management on financial performance issues.  Manages team focused on financial performance, budget development, investments, insurance and compliance.  Leads financial reporting for all internal and external stakeholders.  Leads and participates in institutional projects.  Oversees financial performance for Henry Ford Academy and reports out to HFA leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Issues regular financial reports and evaluates the THF's financial performance including budget performance, balance sheet, restricted fund balances, etc. Reviews and assesses budget to actual performance.  Advises leadership of those areas, which may require additional attention.  Assists with the development and implementation of the steps required to bring financial performance in line with the budget.
2. Distributes financial reports and performance to various stakeholders to use as feedback in decision making. Acts as a key person to evaluate earned revenue opportunities.
3. Coaches and advises the Senior Management Team on the proper use of financial information to manage business and support units.
4. Leads the THF's short- and long-range planning process and the annual budget development process. Designs and implements a mechanism to manage the budget development cycle.  Aids the Senior Management Team in developing budgets. 
5. Assumes senior staff responsibility for the financial assets of the THF. Monitors investment performance of the portfolio and prepares reports to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees on investment performance.  Monitors the performance of each asset manager and provides recommendations to the Finance Committee.  Facilitates the flow of information from the investment advisors to the Finance Committee.
6. Develops a focused and high-quality business analysis capability. Works to improve business analysis skills among key decision-makers in the institution.
7. Oversees implementation of THF’s financial system and new systems in close coordination with Controller. Evaluates new reporting tools and capabilities to streamline information.  Makes necessary changes to system and processes to streamline the work and output of information.
8. Leads THF’s insurance program for all lines of coverage evaluating proper lines and amount of coverage. Works with brokers and advisors in implement the program.
9. Assists with the preparations of grant proposals by providing required financial information. Assists with the management of awarded grants by providing the financial reporting and controls required for compliance with grant requirements.
10. Oversees financial performance for Henry Ford Academy. Reports financial information to Board of Directors and Finance Committee of Henry Ford Academy.
11. Leads team to act as internal auditor for revenue, expense oversight, cash handling, etc. Coordinates closely with Controller to ensure proper procedures and processes are being followed.
12. Contributes to the effective team management of all problems, issues and opportunities. Acts as a team player and provides expertise within the team and with other teams as appropriate.
