USC is seeking a licensed psychologist to serve the mental health and collateral needs of patients presenting to the LAC+USC Burn and Plastic Surgery Services and their families, as well as to provide education to residents and students and contribute to research and quality improvement projects that improve the quality of life for burn and plastic surgery patients and their families.

Job Accountabilities:

• Reports to the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry for department administrative purposes; is accountable to the directors of the LAC+USC Burn and Plastic Surgery Services for meeting the needs of the system.
• Assists with the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of a rehabilitation psychology program for the LAC+USC Burn and Plastic Surgery Services.
• Screens patients in clinic for mental health needs; evaluates patients’ abilities, interests, experiences, skills, health and education; provide support, resources, and linkages to patients in in clinic.
• Develops treatment plans for patients, in consultation with other professionals, such as physicians, nurses, therapists, and other psychologists.
• Provides brief psycho-social interventions and individual and group counseling to burn unit pts with psychiatric co-morbidities and PTSD and their families to adjust to their limitations, address trauma impacts, and develop strengths.
• Coordinates with social work for patients to obtain needed services.
• Participates in research to improve the quality of life for burn and plastic surgery patients.
• Guides program staff, student workers, and volunteers, enforcing established communicating priorities and performance standards.
• Provides education to psychiatry and surgery residents and students via monthly small didactic lectures.
• Participates in annual faculty merit review process; serves on committees, as assigned; participates in USC Psychiatry Department and Surgery Department Grand Rounds.
• May oversee staff, students, volunteers, agencies and/or resource employees.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited institution.
• Must be licensed in the State of California.
• Training and experience with traumatized patients.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of experience working with/treating patients with substance abuse, psychiatric disease co-morbidities, and trauma.
• Experience with psychological trauma, emergency management and/or behavioral/healthcare intervention activities.
• Excellent trauma informed clinical training and diagnostic skills.
• Expertise in clinical assessments, with knowledge of cultural, racial, ethnic, sexual, and generational differences.
• Experience in consultation and outreach with diverse populations.
• Demonstrated proficiency with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to providing health services, including HIPPA.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and proven ability to communicate in a clear, consistent, transparent manner to counsel individuals, foster understanding, and create shared goals.
• Exemplary interpersonal and emotional intelligence, developing relationships with all types of students, staff and alumni, and being particularly sensitive to diverse groups.
• Demonstrated experience developing communication plans, instructional materials and related content, and with conducting in-person meetings.
• Lead/guidance skills, with the ability to manage, balance and prioritize different tasks and projects for various projects.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Knowledge of risk management and liability issues affecting higher education.
• Knowledge of human resources processes, with experience in mediation, negotiation, staff development, and teaching/training staff.
• Resilient, self-aware, and can thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment
• Commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice and to professional integrity.

This is a faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC with a service assignment in and accountability to meet the needs of the LAC+USC Burn and Plastic Surgery services.
