Our Washington University clinics can be located in all St. Louis counties, Illinois and St. Louis City. The Nurse oversees specific research studies and works from an office where they manage a database of research participants, and a list of potential research participants. In addition, the Nurse reviews potential participantâ™s records to determine if they meet research protocol requirements. The RN enrolls qualifying and consenting candidates into studies. There is a clinical aspect to most Research Nurse roles. The Nurse performs related clinical skills such as collecting data, taking vital signs, administering drugs, noting any side effects and other like duties as assigned. Job DescriptionPrimary Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a member of the research team to complete research clinical assessments by telephone and in-person. This includes obtaining health and family history information; administration of standardized tests of cognition, mood, and behavior; physical measurements; and collection and processing of genetic biomarkers. The nurse documents information in electronic data systems. Coordinates Research Projects
Rotates with other MAP nurses to ensure 24 hour telephone availability of a MAP nurse to coordinate autopsy arrangements for brain donors. Communicates with Barnes-Jewish Hospital and other entities beyond Washington University to coordinate research autopsies. Writes expiration summaries as assigned. Serves as an assessment reviewer (DVD reviewer) to assure on-going inter-rater reliability. Conducts telephone interviews to capture cognitive and physical changes with the research participant at intervals between in-person assessments and when the research participant cannot come in to the office for assessments. Research Nurse Coordinator IIs with a Master's degree in nursing degree may train to serve as a research clinician, conducting research assessments under parameters set by the research protocol to determine the presence and stage of dementia and its likely etiology. As the research clinician, the nurse provides feedback and makes treatment recommendations to the participants and, with their permission, their collateral sources or family members and primary care providers. As part of clinical assessments, the nurse clinician performs neurological exams. When serving as research clinician, the nurses♠other duties are adjusted accordingly. Educates Memory and Aging Project participants and their caregivers about dementia and dementia care. Provides lectures about dementia and dementia care to the community and health providers. May be assigned to serve as a nurse clinician for the Memory Diagnostic Center. Other duties in the conduct of clinical research that may be needed.
