We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner  (NP) to work in the Brady Urological Institute and Department of Urology who is intended to collaborate with the faculty physician to provide Hopkins-quality continuum of care to patients with Urologic diseases. Patients in the practice are drawn from local, national and international locales and often require coordination of multidisciplinary care. The NP is an independent health care provider working cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients. 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsibilities include interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, making tentative diagnosis, and prescribing appropriate treatments.
• Educates patients and or their families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness. 
• Prescribe and regulate medications. 
• Record and document health assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/ or expedite required services.
• Ensure patient and physician calls are returned in a timely manner and all patient interactions (phone, conversations, visits, etc.) are documented appropriately in EPR. 
• Function as liaison between the urology team and primary care providers, nurse case managers, inpatient personnel and health care professionals in other specialties. 
• Triage phone calls, answer questions from patients including instructions, medications, refills, biopsies, test results and other aspects of clinical care. 
• Call patients with results according to protocol.  
• Acts in the role of mentors and/or consultant to nurses, physicians, students, and other health care professionals.
• Assume responsibility for own professional development  and remains current in clinical practice by attending relevant continuing education, manage-operate independent clinic, provide intervention as needed and triage complex cases appropriately. Coordinate scheduling of complicated patient treatment.
• Assume responsibility and accountability for time management professional relationships and interpersonal interactions. 
• Regularly attend all outpatient clinics. 
• Assist physician with patient management in the clinic. 
• Manage/operate independent clinics. 
• Assess and/ or manages follow- up plans specific to the patient's needs.
• Perform simple GU procedures independently, examples include: catheters placement, urine samples, cath teaching, simple lysis of penile adhesion.
• Ensure patient and physician calls are returned in a timely manner and all patient interactions (phone, conversations, visits, etc.) are documented appropriately in EPIC. 
• Triage phone calls, answer questions from patients including instructions, medications, refills, biopsies, test results and other aspects of clinical care. 
• Call patients with results according to protocol. 
• Assume responsibility and accountability for time management professional relationships and interpersonal interactions. 
• Regularly attend all outpatient clinics. 
• Manage/operate independent clinics. 
• Assess and/ or manages follow- up plans specific to the patient's needs.
• Records and documents health assessment data necessary. Maintains, coordinates and expedites required services.
• Consistently requests consultations with appropriate departments when necessary. Works collaboratively and provides leadership to optimize team performance and patient outcomes. 
• Assume responsibility for own professional development  and remains current in clinical practice by attending  relevant continuing education, manage-operate independent clinic, provide intervention as needed and triage complex cases appropriately. Coordinate scheduling of complicated patient treatment.
• Adheres to Hospital policies and procedures.
• Adheres to Clinical Operations Group Service Standards.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

• Master's Degree in Nursing.
• Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. 
• Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. 
• Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. 
• Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate of accredited Master's Program for School of Nursing with a Nurse Practitioner curriculum of adult medicine.

• Demonstrate analytical ability necessary to diagnose patients and develop and implement plans of action for long and short-term management of acute and chronic urologic oncologic health problems.
• Demonstrate substantial interpersonal skills necessary to instruct patient and their families and to collaborate with health team members independently.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate excellent service experience skills.
• Must be able to prioritize responsibilities and work in a fast-paced environment.
