UW MEDICAL CENTER - MONTLAKE - RADIOLOGY-COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY department has an outstanding opportunity for a full time day/evening variable shift PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN. The PCT will assist the medical and nursing staff by performing delegated tasks that involve direct patient care; transportation of patients, supplies and specimens; ordering and stocking of supplies; and maintenance/set up of special equipment. Participate in unit and selected departmental activities to promote effective problem solving and communication. Under supervision, will assist the medical and nursing staff by performing delegated tasks that involve direct patient care; transportation of patients, supplies and specimens; ordering and stocking of supplies; and maintenance/set up of special equipment and front desk support. Participates in unit and selected departmental activities to promote effective problem solving and communication. Job Responsibilities: 1. All activities of daily living for these patients including bathing, feeding, toileting, shaving, etc. 2. Assisting with ambulation and other mobility as needed 3. Transferring patients to wheelchairs or beside chairs 4. Monitoring Intake and Output and charting those results in the patient chart 5. Re-positioning patients in bed and charting that in the patient chart 6. Assist with cleaning the patient room as patients are discharged 7. Assist with the patients on the rest of the unit as needed 8. Vital Signs when delegated by the RN 9. When time permits escort patients off the unit for 20-30 minutes for some fresh air 10. Communicate effectively with the other PCT on the unit and the RN in charge of all ten patients to provide patient centered care. Standards of Performance 1. Implements assigned tasks in an organized, timely fashion. 2. Provide safe patients care. 3. Maintains safety, cleanliness and order in patient rooms, utility rooms, and supply/storage rooms. 4. Restocks and maintains supplies in patient rooms; removes used or excess equipment and supplies. 5. Orders and stocks supplies in cost effective manner. 6. Cleans and maintains equipment. 7. Assists in setting up special equipment (example: oxygen, pumps, suction, etc.) 8. Removes from service faulty or damaged equipment and reports to appropriate personnel. 9. Maintains and organizes equipment and supply systems that promote efficiency and accuracy. 10. Consistently interacts courteously with patient and family. 11. Demonstrates respect for patient’s values, lifestyle, spiritual needs and/or cultural diversity in all interactions. 12. Protects confidentiality of written and verbal patient information according to policy and procedure. 13. Maintains patient belongings in a secure manner following established procedure. 14. Obtains documents, and communicates data as delegated. 15. Communicates abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to the RN promptly. 16. Provides safe/therapeutic care consistent with practice standards. Accountability 1. Seeks appropriate assistance if required to provide safe patient care. 2. Seeks assistance when patient needs are beyond his/her expertise or scope of practice. 3. Uses reference manuals and qualified resources for guidance. 4. Uses Contact Precautions and follows hospital and other regulatory standards. 5. Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes and emergencies on the unit. 6. Accurately identifies emergency situations and responds appropriately. 7. Knows current location and use of emergency equipment. 8. Participates in emergency scenarios (e.g. fire drills, mock codes, disaster drills). 9. Completes annual competencies requirements (fire safety, infection control, and other as appropriate) within allotted timeframe. 10. Participates in own evaluation. 11. Responsible for maintaining knowledge and skills related to the Hospital Assistant scope of practice. Minimum Qualifications: Nursing Assistant-Certified (NAC) with the State of Washington. AND High School graduation and six months experience involving direct patient care or customer service in a health care setting; OR equivalent education/experience. Legal Requirement A Washington State Health Care Assistant, Level "A" certification is required within 6 months of employment. (This certification is required to perform venous blood withdrawal procedures and capillary blood glucose checks, and can be achieved through successful on-the-job training.) |
