Essential Functions: The purpose of the Postdoctoral Scholar/Fellow positions is to provideindividuals, who have recently (within the past 6 years) completed adoctoral degree, with a full-time program of advanced academicpreparation and research training under the guidance of a supervisingFaculty Mentor. Postdoctoral appointments are temporary by natureand are designed to develop the Postdoctoral Scholar/Fellow as anindependent scientist and to enhance their professional skills.Postdoctoral Scholars/Fellows are considered to be in training forfuture faculty teaching/ research positions or for a position suited totheir desired career outcomes and recognized for their dual status astrainees and employees.Postdoctoral Scholars/Fellows provide leadership in the design andmanagement of research programs. They additionally assist theirFaculty Mentor(s) in designing protocols as well as training and/orsupervising technical research staff to complete research projects.With the assistance of the Faculty Mentor, postdoctoralscholars/fellows write research grants with the goal of obtainingadditional research grants. They conduct independent research that isexpected to result in scholarly publications and presentations forresearch funding at scientific meetings. The postdoctoral scholars/fellows complete technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures. They conduct independent research with grant funding they were responsible for obtaining. Postdoctoralscholars/fellows, with permission and supervision of their mentor(s),may also be involved with the training of undergraduate and graduatestudents in the laboratory, which is another key aspect towards theirpreparation for future academic and non-academic positions.The title of Postdoctoral Scholar applies to those who are paid asalary by WSU. Their salary is usually charged to a grant or contractsecured by their faculty mentor. This position is time-limited andtypically expires after completing 6 years of research training. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Master's Preferred) for ResearchAssociate position; Doctoral degree required for PostdoctoralResearch Fellow position.Requires advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning,predominantly intellectual in character. This knowledge is acquired bya prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.ExperienceIntermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)Job related experience can include doctorate training. Experienceperforming basic research techniques, preferred. Must havedistinguished themselves in research. Prior recipient of funding forresearch based on individual achievements.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding forresearch. Ability to collect, analyze, summarize and interpret researchfindings in reports and communicate results to the field. Knowledge ofand experience with current scientific integrity principles. Excellenttime management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonalskills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborativeenvironment. Microsoft office software skills.
