General DescriptionThe Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health is a unique and collaborative Johns Hopkins academic program conducted jointly by the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing. It is hosted at and administered by the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and draws upon a variety of disciplines, including epidemiology, demography, emergency and disaster medicine, health systems management, nutrition/food security, environmental engineering, mental health, political science and human rights. The Center collaborates with a variety of organizations including national and international non-governmental organizations, multilateral and UN organizations, and Governmental agencies, as well as other research institutions on field-based research and humanitarian projects. The Center's vision is to pursue new knowledge and disseminate this learning to save lives and reduce human suffering and other consequences of humanitarian emergencies and disasters (http://www.hopkinshumanitarianhealth.org/). Position: The Center seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Scientist (non-professorial track) to support the Center's reproductive, maternal and newborn health research portfolio. This position will be a key member of the Ensuring Quality Access and Learning (EQUAL) for Mothers and Newborns in Conflict-Affected Contexts Consortium, a research consortium funded through the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office 'Filling the Gaps in Evidence: Building Stronger and More Resilient Health Systems Research Programme Consortia mechanism. The consortium is led by the International Rescue Committee in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health, Somalia Research and Development Institute, Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, and Université Catholique de Bukavu (DRC). The objective of this project is to produce rigorous, operationally relevant research and evidence to improve maternal and neonatal health in low-income, conflict-affected contexts. Specifically, the Center is working with partners to advance research on quality of care, maternal and perinatal mortality surveillance and midwifery workforce development. The Assistant Scientist will work independently, in close collaboration with the Center's Director, JHU technical lead for EQUAL, and consortium partners. Scope of Work:
