The Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health is a unique and collaborative Johns Hopkins academic program conducted jointly by the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing. It is hosted at and administered by the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and draws upon a variety of disciplines, including epidemiology, demography, emergency and disaster medicine, health systems management, nutrition/food security, environmental engineering, mental health, political science and human rights. The Center collaborates with a variety of organizations including national and international non-governmental organizations, multilateral and UN organizations, and Governmental agencies, as well as other research institutions on field-based research and humanitarian projects.
The Center's vision is to pursue new knowledge and disseminate this learning to save lives and reduce human suffering and other consequences of humanitarian emergencies and disasters (http://www.hopkinshumanitarianhealth.org/).
Position:
The Center seeks a full-time faculty Research Associate to support Ensuring Quality Access and Learning (EQUAL) for Mothers and Newborns in Conflict-Affected Contexts Consortium, a research consortium launched to produce rigorous, operationally relevant research and evidence to improve maternal and neonatal health in low-income, conflict-affected contexts.
Provide technical assistance in design and implementation of research on quality of care, maternal and perinatal mortality surveillance and midwifery workforce development.
Contribute to development and implementation of research study protocols, ensuring compliance with all JHU and in-country ethical review regulations
Develop data collection tools and track modifications across project sites
Conduct analyses of primary or secondary data in support of specific project needs or as part of overall project analysis plans
Coordinate and contribute to cross-country learning exchange and skills building initiatives within the consortium
Support dissemination of findings and lessons learned to in-country and global communities of practice through reports, technical briefs and presentations
Develop, implement, and monitor annual work plans and budgets, ensuring project objectives are addressed and budget compliance is achieved
Lead performance indicator tracking and quarterly reporting for research workstreams and initiatives led by JHU
Participate in the writing of peer reviewed publications and conference presentations
Represent the Center at relevant meetings

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master degree in public health or related field
Familiarity with global reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health related frameworks,
guidelines and initiatives
Strong quantitative and/or qualitative analysis skills and attention to detail
Previous programmatic and/or research experience in related subjects
Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with teams across multiple locations and
with varied areas of technical expertise
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Fluency in written and spoken English
Assets:
Experience in research protocol development and study coordination
Experience conducting household surveys, health facility assessments, ethnographic, or
community-based participatory research in low-income countries
Experience working in humanitarian or fragile settings
Fluency in French
