Position DescriptionThe Department of Architecture at the University of Washington invites nominations and applications for one or two non-tenure appointment(s) as Lecturer to sustain our capacity to deliver design studio and representation courses. We are searching for candidates that will focus on teaching our required introductory design sequence including design studios and representation and/or modeling seminars as well as for our undergraduate and graduate students. The position will include opportunities to help shape these important courses as we envision how to evolve our curriculum to serve broader audiences including non-majors interested in design, while providing the foundation needed for architecture majors to succeed within the program. Our Values: We recognize that to support the future of sustainable stewardship of the built environments and the creation of a more just and beautiful world, justice and equity are essential to the development of a more inclusive foundation for the allied design and planning fields in the built environment. By advancing our efforts to promote an environment that is welcoming to people of all cultures, races, sexes, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and/or expressions, ages, religions, and economic statuses, we are actively striving to make our college representative of the community and industries we serve where creativity, critical thinking and self-expression can not only exist, but thrive. This is reflected in the College of Built Environment's Strategic Framework built on pillars of collaboration and impact, bold thought leadership, and equitable and just practices. In addition, we are continuing to re-envision the CBE and our departments through equity, inclusion, and access work, including ongoing diversification of our curriculums, faculty expertise, and college-wide programming. Successful candidates will be expected to advance these goals. Located in the heart of the rapidly growing, diverse, and vibrant community of the Seattle metropolitan region, our Department resides in the College of Built Environments and enrolls over 180 students, divided between undergraduate and graduate programs including a NAAB accredited MArch Program, MS and BA degrees as well as hundreds of non-majors each year. People who do not see themselves historically represented in academia and the profession are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities & Terms: Teaching faculty are expected to be on campus during the academic year to teach courses, mentor students and engage in service activities which may include advising students, assisting with student organizations and serving on departmental and college committees. Selected candidates will be assigned classes that may include studios, lectures and seminar courses that include both required and elective courses and may include leading the design and implementation of larger multi-section courses and coordinating part-time instructors. This is a 9-month (Sept 16th - June 15th), multi-year appointment with an anticipated start date of September, 2022. This position is negotiable for between 50 and 100% of full time for a two-year term with the possibility of extension for a third year. The position is at the rank of Lecturer, carries full fringe benefits and is not eligible for promotion or renewal beyond three years. The position will be allocated with approximately 80% time dedicated to teaching and 20% dedicated to Departmental, College and/or University service. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
