Summary of Duties:

The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Manager acts as a change agent and is responsible for the ongoing overall performance assessment and strategic continuous quality improvement efforts of the college. Housed in the Office of Accreditation, Assessment, Evaluation and Curriculum Management, the position will direct performance assessment activities leading to assurance that accreditation requirements are met, policies are complied with, and college operations are efficient and effective. The CQI Manager will develop and maintain effective reporting and communications dashboards on college performance for executive leadership, deans cabinet, accreditation, compliance and other stakeholders and lead collaborative efforts with faculty and staff to establish a culture of quality improvement in the College of Medicine. The position will collaborate with multiple college offices and across all operating units to strategically plan, develop, resource, and project manage CQI solutions.

This position will facilitate, project manage and monitor the effectiveness of strategic business planning, accreditation, policy adherence and administrative resource allocation for all departments in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine statewide. This includes but is not limited to, the MD program across the regional clinical campuses, academic departments such as Speech and Hearing Sciences, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology and research units of Community and Behavioral Health and Translational Medicine and Physiology and supporting the continuum from undergraduate, to graduate, to continuing medical education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

50% Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Provides quality improvement, business process reengineering, and project management expertise to the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. Collaborates with administration, operational unit leads, and Accreditation Standards leads to identify, design, implement, and evaluate continuous quality improvement processes, procedures, and frameworks.
  • Researches, plans, and conducts reviews to evaluate departmental practices and standards. Makes recommendations based on findings. Supports the implementation of recommendations. Once completed, monitors ongoing results.
  • Documents, researches and makes recommendations on processes and work flows. Designs, implements, and evaluates processes, systems, methods, and tools to facilitate, monitor, and report on performance.
  • Coordinates the College's tracking, monitoring and reporting of accountability requirements.
  • Facilitates and leads project teams and quality improvement activities across the College through planning, policy development, consultative advice, project management, research, analysis and reporting.
  • Researches, develops, recommends, and promotes systems to monitor quality. Identifies and implements the quality assurance tools required to monitor quality and provide support to programs. Provides training, advice, expertise, and consulting services as required.
  • Identify compliance measures for metrics utilized to support monitoring efforts, collaborating with relevant stakeholders as needed.
  • Support faculty and staff within departments to plan for change and process improvement.
  • Assists College Leadership in the preparation of program budgets by drafting and monitoring budgets for specific projects.
  • Collaborate across departments and operational units to conceptualize solutions. Present findings, solutions and recommendations to leadership to drive informed decisions. Prepares, coordinates, and participates in committees and subcommittees as directed.
  • Identifies required resources and ensures resources are sourced appropriately. Work could include obtaining funding approvals, analysis of viable options, negotiating contracts, etc.
  • Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data, identifies trends, develops recommendations, writes reports and presents findings to appropriate committees, managers and/or staff. Ensures the Office of Compliance is apprised when appropriate.
  • Ensures quality improvement programs are aligned with accreditation and educational standards, improving the student experience and ensuring the graduation of high-quality, competent graduates.
  • Ensures that operating units and academic departments across the College are implementing policies and procedures as required. Lead the development and execution of action plans to resolve when necessary.

25% Data Management and Analytics
  • Develop and implement performance measures and data collection processes.
  • Manage data and data collection required to support quality improvement efforts.
  • Identify metrics required across all units in the College; develop tools and processes to obtain necessary information.
  • Ensure data integrity and reporting meets relevant statistical parameters.
  • Solicit feedback from stakeholders on areas of improvement.
  • Develop and maintain data dashboards to support quality improvement efforts for all departments in the College of Medicine.

20% Accreditation Compliance
  • Manage all College of Medicine accreditation-related projects.
  • Manage policies that relate to accreditation for all programs in the College of Medicine.
  • Manage the teams required to support accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain the documentation required for accreditation.
  • Support the planning for accreditation related activities for all departments within the College of Medicine; currently four departments, each on independent accreditation cycles.
  • Oversight of accreditation budget and costs.
  • Participates in the coordination, review and approval of policies and procedures. Identifies gaps and recommends creation of new policies.
  • Ensure compliance with the policies required to ensure accreditation for all programs in the College of Medicine in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure policies do not have conflicting requirements. Identify when there is non-compliance and implement plans to resolve.

  • Perform other related work as required


Required Qualifications:

Positions require a Bachelor's degree in relevant field and three (3) years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified within the project specialty. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business or other related field dependent on experiences or the equivalent work experience required.
  • Three (3) years of quality improvement experience/analytics experience in business processes.
  • Project management and/or business process reengineering experience.
  • Certificate in quality improvement or equivalent experience using quality improvement methods.
  • Knowledge of basic performance improvement tools and methodologies.
  • Experience guiding diverse teams in the implementation of organizational changes.
  • Ability to work independently, autonomously and self driven.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including group facilitation skills required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in related field.
  • Recognized certifications in projection management such as Project Management Professional, LEAN or Six Sigma.
  • Experience in higher education/medical education.
