Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Database Administrator in Office of Information Technology.
The DBA of Enterprise Application Services is primarily responsible for the optimal performance of Oracle RDBMS systems and SQL Server Cluster environments with a focus in the Clinical & Research Data Warehouse infrastructure. The Database Administrator will report to the Associate Director of the Data Management & Analytics and is expected to provide technical leadership to Enterprise Application Services (EAS) staff, staff in other OIT divisions, and OIT clients in the planning and implementation of complex projects requiring significant special database expertise. The position is responsible for the installation, configurations, performance, security and design of the database environment supporting EAS applications and control systems with a focus on security. Directs the analysis of vendor supplied software (such as Informatica DQ) and determines the optimum configuration for interfaces between hardware, database management systems and application systems. Ensures control over modifications or enhancements to systems software to ensure minimum impact on production systems under development. Recommends the establishment of and enforces standards relating to use of system software. Responsible for the evaluation of systems and making recommendations for improvements to management. Our department supports critical business systems running a variety of database technologies, such as, Oracle RDBMS, MS-SQLServer, MySQL, Postgres. The Clinical & Research DW DBA should be well versed in common security protocols and analytical tools, such as: data file encryption, Informatica Power Center, DQ, SAS, R, Shiney, etc.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides technical leadership in the planning and implementation of complex database management system projects affecting the Rutgers community. Provides guidance/consultation to all EAS areas for the computing environment(s) assigned to ensure successful project implementation.
Responsible for the performance, configuration, and design of the database structures within the computer environment(s) assigned.
Establishes standards and prepares system documentation, procedures, evaluations, proposals, etc.
Manages and mentors other team members to meet the goals of the computer environment assigned.
Keeps abreast of the latest developments in technology and considers how they may be used to solve challenges in our department. Also, consults with other senior programming staff members regarding the implementation and use of the various technologies available within the department.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Experience installing, setting up & configuring Oracle databases in development and test environments.
Experience in performing backup and recovery procedures using Oracle RMAN.
Bachelor's degree or technical school certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technology field and equivalent experience with a minimum of six years progressive experience in a database administration environment with emphasis on Oracle database management systems and MS-SQLServer.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to administer and troubleshoot Oracle databases including security patching, SQL tuning, capacity planning, and schema design.
Very good understanding of Oracle design, architecture, security & performance tuning.
Good analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
Good problem solving skills and resourceful.
Good oral & written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal/team skills.
Well organized and detail oriented.
Customer service mindset, profession courtesy, respect and consistent positive communications to team members and clients is essential to delivering great work experiences.
Competency in Oracle Recovery Manager.
Install, setup & configure Oracle databases in development and test environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Clinical & HIPAA sensitive information and corresponding handling of protected data.
Experience with EMR systems and data (Epic).
