Position Summary

The Assistant Controller plays a highly visible and key role in providing critical financial and strategic consultation to leaders across the organization. This position supports all aspects of financial planning, P&L review, and other complex financial analyses required to keep the profitable and sustained growth of the business.

The Assistant Controller reports to the Division Controller with a shared responsibility to the Vice-president of Abbott Point of Care. It provides business and financial counsel and direction to the overall Abbott Point organization. This includes financial analysis and counsel related to the HQ functions-including Global Commercial Operations and Global Strategic Marketing. This role is also responsible for delivering analytics and business support to enable informed decision making by executive staff and quality presentation of performance summaries to be shared with senior leaders across the Division and Corporation. The position will analyze the organization's financial forecasts for sales and margin to ensure they are reasonable and consistent with management expectations and ready to be presented to Executive levels in Division and Corporate. It will also identify gaps and work with the Division staff and Controllers to develop action plans to mitigate them.

Additionally, it sets expectations of the financial organizations' role in supporting the business strategies, including alignment with other functional organizations.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic analysis of the Division's financial forecasts for sales and margin to ensure they are reasonable and consistent with management expectations. 
• Work collaboratively with all Division functions to identify and drive profitability improvement across areas that ensure the achievement of Division Financial targets.
• Lead the quarterly FP&A planning and forecasting process. This includes the setting of financial targets, guidance to Commercial and Operations teams, and the preparation of Executive level presentations to Division and Corporate.
• Lead the annual preparation of the Division Long Range Plan. The position will be responsible for working with business leaders to identify growth and investment potential and opportunities for the Division and identify any gaps versus expectations over the long term.
• Lead the financial integration with the Division Integrated Busines Planning process, including KPI reporting requirements.
• Lead the monthly assessment of the Division's financial results compared to the Corporate expectations and ensure the timely, complete, analyzed, and well-presented submission to the Division and Corporate Management. This includes leveraging the shared service resources within the Corporate Financial Services organization.
• Identify the need for and creation of ad hoc analysis and scenario planning analyses to address a diversity of business issues and opportunities in a dynamic environment.
• This function is the Division liaison with the Corporate Finance teams.
• Provide financial analysis and business advice to several HQ functions-including Global Strategic Marketing and Global Commercial Operations)
• Establish and maintain internal processes, procedures, and controls that ensure financial assets' integrity and accuracy of financial statements and forecasts; avoid errors and surprises; and comply with Division/Corporate policies and procedures, GAAP, and Abbott's Code of Conduct.
• In conjunction with the Division Information Systems groups, define and lead the implementation of strategic and tactical financial systems development and support plans that ensure a consistent approach to financial data management and processing.
• Establishes and maintains training, development, and recognition program for the financial organization to ensure that it can meet Division and Corporate requirements.
• This position has one Direct Report (and two indirect)

Position Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance/accounting, An MBA, CPA, or CMA is strongly preferred, ten or more years of diverse financial experience, including financial planning, reporting and analysis, general accounting, cost accounting, and internal control. 

• Demonstrated success in managing finance professionals. 
• Strong leadership competencies are a must: set vision and strategy, build and inspire, know the business, drive for results, make difficult decisions, and encourage an open environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization professionally. Position involves frequent interface with Senior Directors, Controllers, Division Vice Presidents, and Corporate officers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability and aptitude to provide solutions and contingency plans through the comprehensive review of alternatives.
• Ability to present material to Executive-level management.
• A proven track record of partnering cross-functionally with various stakeholders to produce and deliver well-synthesized analyses, narratives, and recommendations to diverse audiences, including senior management.
• Must thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic company environment.
• Strong financial modeling skills and business acumen, with the ability to drive projects from start to finish.
