The Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The primary purpose of this position is to fulfill the mission of WaNPRC which is to empower the delivery of leading-edge scientific discoveries and promote the highest standards of care, health, well-being and conversation for primates around the world. In conjunction with our Mission Statement, these values link this position to our purpose as a Center: •Commitment to Foundational Research •Teamwork •Accountability •Productivity •Clear and Respectful Communication Reporting to the WaNPRC Director, and in partnership with Assistant Vice Provost of Research, the CAO will partner with WaNPRC leadership to oversee financial business operations, research administration, Animal Resources Division (ARD) and facilities for both Seattle and Arizona sites and lead strategy and initiatives in support of organizational goals. Primary responsibilities are to partner with leadership and provide guidance to leadership to ensure overall success of WaNPRC’s mission and vision and financial and research sustainability. Successful candidates will be experienced managing a dynamic work environment with national and international partners, overseeing multifaceted programs and a track-record of achieving organizational goals. The CAO will be responsible for the overall financial strategy of WaNPRC and lead initiatives, along with guiding leadership, in support of our mission and vision. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: •Partnering with WaNPRC leadership and facilitating teams, the CAO will devise financial strategies and policies to meet WaNPRC goals. Provide innovative approaches for financial management and vitality as it relates to all WaNPRC. •Partnering with leadership, the CAO will be responsible for providing strategy for: research administration, pre and post award grant management, ARD, finance, and purchasing and facilities. •Providing WaNPRC financial oversight, and not limited to, the CAO will: manage budgets, contract management and facilitate business negotiations. •Analyzing audit reports and formulating improvements for WaNPRC operations. •Coordinating inter-group collaboration activities and delegating responsibilities so as to maximize efficiencies. •Compiling performance reports and reporting to the WaNPRC director and Assistant Vice. •Presentation and preparation of financial information to Director and Assistant Vice Provost of Research, and internal and external audiences. •Ensuring all local, state, university and federal regulations are followed by interpreting and determining applicability within WaNPRC. Liaise with organizational, university, regulatory authorities, and national and international entities related to WaNPRC matters. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements. Additional Requirements: •Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills in diverse working environments. •Demonstrated acumen managing diverse teams in various sites, in-person and remotely, national and international. •Excellent financial analysis and information management as it relates to grant and contracts and project cost accounting and reporting, as well as developing innovative approaches. •Excellent oral and written/electronic communication skills to include professionalism, tact and discretion at all times as a representative of WaNPRC. •Proven decision-making skills in high-pressure environments. •Proven ability to interact well with persons of diverse backgrounds and at all levels of an organization, including external entities. •Proven effectiveness in a fast-paced, high-stress environment managing multiple projects and deadlines with shifting priorities. •Ability to handle sensitive situations and highly confidential information with discretion. •Strong technology skills as it relates to financial reporting and presentations. •Working knowledge of government regulations. •Working knowledge of NIH granting system. •Experience with UW operations a plus. DESIRED REQUIREMENTS •Master’s degree and 10+ yrs of applicable experience in a university setting. •Experience leading change management in complex work environments. •Working knowledge of government regulations in a university setting. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT •Organization priorities may require accessibility outside normal business hours to achieve operational goals. •Position is essential and will be required to report to work and/or continue work obligations during times of suspended operations or as deemed necessary by WaNPRC. •Adhere to the WaNPRC Environmental Enhancement Plan requirements for NHPs.
