Job Description:

The Video Production Lab Assistant position exists to support Video Production and Interactive Design students with program and lab assignments. The lab assistant also supports the Video Production and Interactive Design faculty with repairs and general maintenance of lab equipment. The lab assistant collaborates with the technology division when upgrading software and hardware. The lab assistant monitors the inventory needed to support required supplies and equipment to successfully manage the program.

Specific duties include:
  • Collaborate with program faculty to develop new ways to meet the needs of students and serve them including; evaluation of enrollment data, assessing laboratory procedures, developing and promoting tutoring opportunities, and creating study materials to improve student learning.


  • Perform basic lab operations including but not limited to record-keeping, monitoring and communicating needed supplies, develop reviews and workshops to support student learning. Maintain appearance of labs including resources.

  • Assist instructors (full-time, adjunct, daytime, and evening) in preparation for labs and lectures with the setup of equipment used for lectures, demonstrations, and lab work.

  • Collaborate with the IT department in troubleshooting, supporting, maintaining, and updating program software and hardware.

  • Maintain cleanliness in all labs.

  • Attend program meetings, division meetings, advisory meetings, and IT staff meetings as requested by the supervisor.

  • Attend college-wide workshops as requested by supervisor.

  • Attend annual trade shows and outreach seminars for upgrading technical skills.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain the reputation of the organization and program as a viable business partner. Participation on college committees and activities for the general good of the College or to develop community partnerships.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job):

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in multimedia design technology or video production

OR
  • Two (2) years of work experience in multimedia design technology or video production
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience


Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter the job):

  • Post-secondary degree in multimedia design technology or video production.


  • Knowledge of and experience working with multiple software programs, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite Cloud features, Office, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, Avid Media Composer, Celtx, Propresenter, Wirecast, Storyboarder, Adobe After Effects, Toonboom Harmony

  • Ability to work independently and with sensitivity to creatively tutor, engage and motivate students, especially those with disadvantages

  • Experience effectively tutoring or training in multimedia design technology or video production.

  • Mac Computer literacy and the ability to troubleshoot computer hardware problems

  • Knowledge of data privacy and other legal issues and relevant disability legislation

  • Knowledge of technical college goals and HTC's mission
