Columbia Investment Management Company, LLC, (???IMC???) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Columbia University (???Columbia???) charged with stewarding Columbia???s endowment for the current and future support of its operations and with preserving the purchasing power of the endowment over the long-term. The IMC seeks professionals who can contribute materially to the management of the portfolio. POSITION SCOPE:
Reporting to Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Associate (Treasury & Reporting) will be a key contributor in executing IMC???s transaction and reporting processes, as well as enhancing IMC???s overall operations.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Reviewing and processing portfolio transactions such as capital calls, distributions, redemptions, and transfers into key systems.
Compiling and reviewing periodic cash reports and reconciliations
Executing the account setup processes across IMC???s internal and external systems.
Coordinating directly with the custodian to ensure accounts are appropriately set up, entries are accurate and complete in both accounting and performance measurement systems.
Compiling and reconciling the monthly portfolio accounting and performance data in collaboration with IMC team members, while identifying exceptions and ensuring resolutions are diligently documented.
Summarizing key drivers of investment performance, understanding changes in the portfolio???s profits/losses, performance and working with senior team members to document and validate observations.
Reconciling IMC expenses and preparing periodic IMC budget to actual reports.
In addition, the Associate is expected to perform other related duties and materially participate in various projects which may include, but are not limited to:
Assisting with the compilation of schedules and other deliverables, in connection with Columbia annual financial audit and tax filings.
Critically reviewing, streamlining and/or enhancing reporting and reconciliation tools to support the integrity of the reporting process.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree preferably in accounting or finance and/or equivalent related experience.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the investment fund/asset management or related industry.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification is a plus
Other Requirements
Must be detail-oriented, have excellent applied spreadsheet skills (including financial functions, pivot tables), embraces technology (including the ability to navigate databases, productivity, and business intelligence tools).
Must have a fundamental desire to improve their understanding and application of best practices around operations, accounting, audit, and risk management.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with a variety of audiences.
In addition to strong critical thinking skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuously learn are all required to be a successful member of the IMC team.
The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a demanding environment and must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines for both short/long term and ad-hoc assignments.
