Position Summary

The Office of Information Technology at Washington University in St. Louis is looking to fill the following positions:

Application Developer

Application Developer II

Application Developer III

Research Infrastructure Application Engineering is currently providing application support to the entire Universityâ™s research community. This position will provide advanced support of cost-effective information technology solutions by creating new, modifying, and supporting existing software applications that are of a complex nature.

Job Description

There will be some activities that require trips to other university offices and offsite locations. Provide off hours support, as needed.

Work on this team generally includes activities such as:

Conducting work flow study and analyzing business processes.
Performing application lifecycle activities, including: code, monitor, maintain, test, and debug software applications; following established change management processes and enforcing code standards; evaluating new technology products.
Provide off hours support, as needed.
Coordinating with software vendors and external service providers; troubleshooting escalated software bugs and providing fixes.
Providing excellent customer service, adhering to departmental standards; acting as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelorâ™s degree in a technical discipline
2-7+ years of relevant technology experience.
Prior experience in a higher education technology environment.
Container technology - specifically Docker.
Cloud environments - specifically GCP and Azure.
Linux/Unix operating systems.
Working in a Bash/command line environment.
HPC Job Schedulers such as SLURM or LSF.
Programming in one or more languages such as Perl, Python, R, Java.
Experience with development tools such as Git, Bamboo, Puppet, Ansible, Jenkins.
Experience with Bio-informatics software is a plus.
Demonstrated aptitude to quickly and effectively adapt to technologies outside of current experience.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Engaged in continuous improvement of internal processes and procedures.
Ability to consult with clients and higher level technicians and analysts to resolve technical problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
Ability to interact with customers to discuss alternative technical solutions.
Ability to work with only minimal supervision.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new circumstances.
Ability to work extra hours and recognize the need to do so.
Ability to adjust scheduled time.
Ability to adjust to change and demands on time.
Position Specific e. g. database, PeopleSoft, .NET, UNIX, current application development tools and languages, etc.

Required Qualifications

Bachelorâ™s degree in a technical discipline such as computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.

G14

Salary Range

$70,300.00 - $120,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
