UW Medicine’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Primary Care (UWPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission. In collaboration with UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) and under the general guidance of the Manager, Analytics Data Operations, the primary focus of the Sr. Data Scientist is to work with customers to understand and translate business requirements into an efficient logical and physical data model, then manage the data model version control and change control. The Sr. Data Scientist (1) plans with vision and foresight to provide high quality data, (2) identifies and defines common data requirements, and (3) designs conceptual structure and plans to the the current and long-term data requirements of UW Medicine constituents and in doing so. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: The Sr. Data Scientist will perform “advanced to complex” level work responsibilities, which are defined by being a lead resource for small to medium scale project and performing progressively more complex production tasks, including mentoring more junior staff as well as “advanced to complex” analytics solutions development and project work. This includes being the lead Sr. Data Scientist resource for multiple projects with durations longer than 3-months, and level of effort estimate of 500 or more hours per project. These projects should have increased visibility and impact at the department leadership level. The Sr. Data Scientist will work closely with customers and a team of Analytics analysts. data architects and developers to translate business rules into usable conceptual, logical, and physical models and database designs. This position must be able to work independently and within a team environment managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
