This DEIJA Coordinator is responsible for the management, coordination and implementation of school wide efforts in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Anti-Racism. The DEIJA Coordinator reports directly to the Head of School, serves on the Diversity Committee of the Board, and works collaboratively with faculty and administration to ensure the success of DEIJA initiatives.
The following description is aspirational in scope and is subject to modifications based on budget and enrollment projections for 22-23.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Report to the Head of School.
Serve on and/or collaborate with: the Senior Administrative Team, the Area Chairs Team, the Student Support Team.
Serve as the initial community wide point of contact for DEIJA related issues, inquiries, questions, comments, or reports.
Manage and collaborate with the DEIJA Communications & Programming Coordinator.
Hold the school accountable towards reaching stated DEI goals and projects.
Serve as liaison between the DEIJA Team and the Board’s Diversity Committee.
Collaborate with the Dean of Faculty, Associate Head of School, Dean of Students, and Head of School on bias incident management.
Project Management (pending scope of role)
Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs to sustain a diverse, equitable, inclusive, just, and anti-racist school community.
Refine processes in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, evaluating, and retaining faculty and staff who reflect and/or support diversity and inclusion.
Education:
Coordinate student, faculty, and staff attendance to diversity conferences (NAIS, AISNE, etc.).
Facilitate faculty and staff participation in professional development training related to DEIJA.
Provide support to faculty and staff with curriculum development and classroom culture.
Lead DEIJA orientations for staff, new staff, new families, tutors, the board, student leaders at the start of the year.
Be a resource to the Dean of Students and staff facilitators to student affinity groups and coalition groups.
Be a resource to students, faculty, and staff on DEIJA related questions, comments, issues.
Work with DEIJA Programming Coordinator on calendar programming, DEIJA related community events, community installations and projects, and visual and written communications.
Be part of the bias incident educational response process.
Additional Requirements:
Participation in annual all-school events such as Program Night, Graduation, Convocation.
Participation in Experiential Learning aspects of our program, including Camping Trip and Endterm, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
Attendance at co-curricular aspects of our school program, e.g. All-School Meetings, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
Participation in Faculty Meetings and Professional Days, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred.
A minimum of two years of leadership experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Demonstrated participation in training in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Effective written, verbal, and public speaking communication skills.
Successful experience in conflict resolution.
Cultural proficiency.
Experience engaging in challenging conversations on DEI-related issues, including naming and confronting white fragility, privilege, & power.
Experience with counseling on DEI-related issues.
Pedagogical knowledge of students in grades 6-12.
Effective organizational skills.
Values and practices emotional intelligence.
Clear and direct interpersonal communication.
This position is part-time, with the scope pending the completion of the 22-23 budget.
