Summary and Scope of Position:

The Associate Vice-President for Student Affairs (AVP) is a full-time position that reports to the Vice-President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students (VPSA/DOS).  The AVP works across campus to develop student experiences, processes, and policies that are inclusive and align with the division’s model for learning beyond the classroom. The AVP will work closely with the VPSA/DOS to develop the division’s annual report, identify areas for assessment, and implement quantitative and qualitative tools to tell the division’s story. The AVP coordinates with enrollment management on the handoff of students from depositing to starting classes and provide regular retention and attrition reports to campus stakeholders.  Assists in leading crisis response.

  • Provides institutional leadership on retention
  • Leads campus-wide assessment of programs and processes and how they impact retention
  • Provides annual report on cohort attrition
  • Collaborates with ISS and IRE to improve student data collection and perform retention analyses
• Scholarship Responsibilities
  • Oversees student experience of specialty scholarships
  • Provide support to faculty advisers for scholarship selection, matriculation, and programming
• Curricular Approach/SA Annual Reporting Responsibilities
  • Compiles yearly report on curricular approach in conjunction with VPSA
  • Works across division to enmesh curricular approach into our work
  • Serves on CRIS committee and collaborates with CIE faculty to provide quality programming to students that bridges Quest and the curricular approach
• Student Engagement Responsibilities
  • Oversees the operation of student clubs and organizations
  • Oversees student governance and funding process
• Matriculation Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Orientation to provide orientation experiences in line with divisional learning objectives
  • Coordinate student affairs communications to incoming FY and Transfer students
  • Coordinates handoff of student information from enrollment to Student Affairs
  • Oversees orientation programs
• Residence Life Responsibilities
  • Oversees the operation of the residential experience
  • Manages reporting on occupancy and housing selection
• Check-In/Enrollment Data Responsibilities
  • Leads campus-wide check-in committee
  • Oversees logistic planning for all check-ins
• Leads crisis response in a duty rotation

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree Required
• Minimum of ten years professional experience in higher education
• Experience implementing student retention strategies
• Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare useable information and reports for various constituencies related to student success
• Familiarity with Colleague, Maxient, residential management software, SPSS, and Microsoft Office products preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, complex projects; strong ability to multi-task and continually prioritize changing tasks and deliverables
