The Liver Transplant Physician Assistant (PA), under the direction of a Liver Transplant Surgeon assists in the care of patients after liver transplantation in the clinic and in the hospital. The PA also assists other personnel to ensure high quality delivery of patient care and services to this patient population.  Works with the transplant surgical team to round on in house patients, do admissions, discharges and daily care. Conducts discharge education and coordinates post discharge appointments for the surgery and consultative clinics. Participates in transplant surgeries and clinic as needed. Responsible for the preparation of medical records including admission notes, discharge summaries and daily progress notes as well as clinic notes when needed. Order medications, diagnostic studies, and therapeutic procedures for in patients under the supervision of the surgery faculty and obtains results in a timely fashion. Collaborates with Surgical Director to develop protocols for refining the management of this patient population taking into account clinical acuity and cost perspectives. Will monitor compliance of protocols, and work with Ql department for process improvement regarding the care of post-liver transplant patients.  Provides education and support to the post-liver transplant patient and to their families during the hospital course and at discharge teaching.  Provides education to the hospital nurse regarding treatment modalities for these patients. Support and participate in clinical research studies involving post-liver transplant patients as appropriate; works closely with physicians as necessary to obtain data for publication. Acts as a liaison between patient and multiple medical/surgical disciplines involved in the care of these patients; communicates plan of care with referring physicians.   Works to maintain and establish new relationships with referring physicians; works with clinic director regarding program marketing and target populations. Minimum Education: â¢Licensed Physician Assistant. Minimum Experience/Knowledge:â¢Critical care experience preferred or related experience. Required License/Certification:â¢Valid California Physician Assistant License, Current BLS and ACLS for Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association. â¢Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
