Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a Psychotherapy Program Director position at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), within the Community Health and Well-Being unit of the Division of Student Affairs. This position is a full-time, 12-month position reporting directly to the Associate Director of Clinical Services. The role will oversee individual and group psychotherapy services at CAPS, and in collaboration with the Associate Director of Clinical services, help determine a strategy to ensure the provision of best possible psychotherapy services to CMU students. The Psychotherapy Program Director will have the opportunity to lead a team of mental health professionals in a department committed to integrating global social justice perspectives in inter-culturally sensitive community well-being. The Program Director brings vision, leadership and active engagement that takes into account institutional and departmental needs while contributing to staff development and clinical practice from a global social justice lens.

The role of Program Director of Psychotherapy Services includes providing administrative oversight and ensuring the optimal functioning of CaPS psychotherapy services, providing administrative supervision to psychotherapists and contract therapy staff, providing consultation and/or clinical supervision as needed to staff providing psychotherapy, and in collaboration with the Associate Director of Clinical Services, updating clinical policy and procedures as it relates to individual and group psychotherapy services. Additionally, the person in this position provides direct counseling/psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and outreach/prevention services to CMU students. This position works with the CaPS leadership team in developing and implementing policy consistent with institutional needs and ethical professional practice.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• In collaboration with Associate Director of Clinical Services, formulate a strategy for psychotherapy services in accordance to national standard methodologies and divisional and institutional mission and goals.

• Provides administrative supervision of individuals in the Psychotherapy team

• Provides guidance, training, evaluation, and leadership to direct and indirect reports providing psychotherapy services.

• Assesses needs for and develops program recommendations and requests to improve individual and group psychotherapy services.

• Helps recruit and participates in searches for skilled and professional staff for the Psychotherapy team.

• Participates in the CaPS Clinical Services Committee, a standing working committee used to monitor, assess and address ongoing needs related to clinical services, as well as coordinate clinical efforts at CaPS.

• Provides direct counseling/psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and outreach/prevention services to CMU students.

• Assists CaPS leadership in administrative functions within CaPS.

• Serves as consultant for parents, faculty and families on issues related to psychotherapy services at CaPS.

• Assists in accreditation (APA, IACS) efforts as needed.

• Other job-related duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

• Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statues, regulations, codes, and standards related to the delivery of mental health services.

• Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in the college student population, including undergraduate, graduate and international students.

• Ability to think critically and creatively about clinical problems, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into CaPS.

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree required; Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology preferred

• Minimum 5 years post-degree experience providing psychotherapy services in a clinical mental health setting; experience in a higher education setting strongly preferred

• Must be licensed as a mental health professional within the state of Pennsylvania or become licensed within 3 months of beginning this position.

• Experience with policy and procedure design and evaluation.

• Experience with crisis intervention, risk assessment, management of potentially high-risk clients.

• Demonstrated effectiveness and strengths working with historically underrepresented groups including Black/African American, Indigenous/First Nations, Latinx, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multiracial and other individuals of color, international, and/or who identify as LGBTQIA+ in a higher education context.

• Demonstrated experience in the provision of administrative and clinical supervision.
