The Office of Finance & Treasury at Princeton University is seeking a finance professional with significant experience in the usage of debt as a financing tool for capital projects for an opportunity as Debt Manager. The position supports the Universityâ™s debt programs, both long-term and short-term, taxable, and tax-exempt. The position also has the responsibility to evaluate and enhance the Universityâ™s debt management business processes to ensure both efficiency of operations and appropriate stewardship. This position reports to the Director of Debt Management and will be a member of a 4-person team in the Debt Management group.

Debt Operations, Compliance and Controls Management

• Assist in the management of all debt service obligations and payments on all the Universityâ™s outstanding debt and loan portfolios totaling in excess of $3.8 billion.
• Help maintain a database for all billing activity related to the Universityâ™s debt obligations, including ongoing payments to third-party vendors.
• Help lead the Universityâ™s compliance and regulatory efforts for debt-related disclosures to the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.

Provide support to the design, enhancement, and maintenance of a complex debt model to plan and manage the Universityâ™s debt program

• The 10-year Capital Plan is used as the basis for formulating critical funding and financing decisions, particularly regarding debt strategy. One funding component of the Capital Plan is the debt model. Continually evaluate and enhance the debt model to streamline University business practices and external financial factors. Ensure that the debt model is accurately and efficiently integrated with the Universityâ™s Integrated Financial Planning tool.

Parent/Unique and Student Loan Program Support

• Support and serve as Backup to Operations Manager.
• Ensure program terms and procedures follow applicable laws. Manage University loan borrowings (to fund programs) and repayment.
• Perform financial analyses and participate in setting and communicating loan terms to new borrowers.
• Review applications and make decisions considering creditworthiness and eligibility. Manage loan origination process; respond to borrower inquiries and resolve account problems.
• Report loan interest paid by borrowers to the IRS and the borrowers.
• Monitor and track delinquency; participate in determining collection strategies.

Serve as a supporting resource to the Director, Debt Management

• Perform ad-hoc analyses and reports as requested.
• Resolve debt related issues that may arise.
• Provide support for debt issuances as a member of the debt working group.

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelorâ™s degree, preferably in a business-related field
• Minimum of seven to nine years in public finance or treasury capital markets
• Experience in fixed income issuance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in public finance investment banking
• Prior work for higher education clients in the tax-exempt and taxable fixed income markets
