Academic Senior Advisor (HEOa) - Flex Academic Success Coach Job ID 26866Location Kingsborough Community College Full/Part Time Regular/Temporary Regular Add to My Favorite Jobs POSITION DETAILS The FLEX Program at Kingsborough Community College was established to support returning adult students who need flexible and supportive approaches to meet success in completing their associate degrees. Originally intended to provide courses through fully on-line, hybrid and/or evening and weekend modalities it has seen the majority of its students choosing to remain primarily fully online to complete one of the eight fully online accredited associate degrees. FLEX recognizes the academic challenges, particularly those experienced by returning students and works to support them from point of interest in attending KCC/joining FLEX through graduation and beyond. Reporting to the FLEX Program Manager the FLEX Academic Advisor/Academic Success Coach will utilize a holistic and intrusive advisement approach to provide academic guidance, mentoring and coaching to a caseload of primarily adult/nontraditional/returning students. The Academic Success Coach involves overlapping processes including proactive communication, meaningful dialogue, problem solving, strategic planning, follow-up and continual real-time revision of students??? plans and goals. Using a variety of tools, the Academic Success Coach adjusts their approach to best match the needs of the individual student while helping the students explore the best path to reaching their individual goals. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Success Coach duties will include but not be limited to the following: ?? Initiate and maintain proactive individualized coaching, mentoring and encouragement to assigned students to keep them engaged in successfully advancing their education ?? Use intentional advising practices to foster student development and to aid students in the creation of educational plans, setting goals, and identifying the next steps necessary to navigate College processes ?? Monitor student academic progress toward degree completion, referring student to appropriate campus support services and following up on success of referral ?? Develop and conduct engaging workshops on academic success/time and resource management/career exploration/transfer planning and options. ?? Design and implement targeted and personalized communication to engage, inform, and remind students of opportunities, requirements, and provide encouragement ?? Monitor and track, utilizing student success technology systems (currently Starfish) the efficacy of coaching activities, student interactions, and referrals in achieving individual student success and persistence, retention, and completion rates of assigned students. ?? Identify appropriate interventions and promptly connect assigned students to relevant academic and community resources (ex. tutoring, financial aid, counseling, career services, ARC, etc???) as necessary to assure academic persistence and success ?? Collaborate with various areas of Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to advocate on behalf of students when necessary ?? Participate in advisor training/updates and maintain overall updated knowledge of curricula, academic policies and processes students are affected by in route to the graduation stage and beyond ?? Assist with other related projects as requested ??
