JOB SUMMARY The Pharmacist Specialist is accountable for development, oversight and documentation for specialist's area. Develops new and existing pharmaceutical care activities that are patient centered and cost-effective. Serves as a resource for pharmacists and technicians and may give pharmaceutical care to patients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Develops core strategies and recommends best practices related to the specialist's area. Helps in the preparation and implementation of facility policy and procedures as needed. Maintains effective communication with facility directors and leadership teams on opportunities in the specialist's area. Helps in the development of specialized area management teams and participates in meetings as needed. Helps in preparation and implementation of pharmacy staff competencies and staff development. Develops rotations for pharmacy students and/or residents in specialist's area. Provides educational services to Medical, Pharmacy, Nursing or other team members through formal and informal presentations or written publications. Performs the work of a pharmacist, as required. Fulfills and provides proof of continuing education, licensure, and/or certifications required to remain qualified for this role. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Advanced knowledge of Pharmacy Care modalities, pharmaceutical calculations, therapies, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards, medications and equipment. General computer skills, including but not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning and email. Ability to research, evaluate and disseminate information. Ability to know, optimize and document complex processes. Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory requirements.
