Location: Batavia, NY Category: Administrative/Professional Posted On: Tue May 23 2023 Job Description: GENERAL FUNCTIONS: The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for deploying, managing and maintaining enterprise computer systems in the organization, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues that arise. This involves identifying the root cause, developing, and implementing a solution, and ensuring the issue does not recur. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage and maintain Active Directory and Azure, including managing users and groups, group policy, devices, organizational structure, DHCP, DNS, and security. This includes managing user accounts using built in Windows tools, PowerShell, and via third-party products. Manage and maintain the college Exchange email system, including creating and managing mailboxes, distribution lists, public folders, and security. Manage the college Microsoft 365 licensing and infrastructure, including Sharepoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Microsoft Defender Security. Manage and maintain the college Virtual Device Infrastructure, including deploying virtual machines and servers, managing storage, and security. Manage and maintain enterprise servers, both physical and virtual, including provisioning, deployment, and security. Use Device Management systems to manage deployment of security patches and other updates to devices on the college network, including servers, laptops and desktops. Assist in the management of the Learning Management System (LMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and other enterprise systems as needed. Manage customer requests using campus ticketing system and provide support for the Applications, Network, and User Services teams. Contribute to the knowledgebase documentation for both internal team and faculty, staff, and student services. Assist with security of the campus network and desktop/laptop computer systems. Assist with the development of training functions, development of computer services policies and procedures, development of bid specifications for procurement of system hardware and software, research, development and implementation of new software and hardware technologies. Help maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of Systems hardware and software. Work collaboratively with all Computer Services staff for maintenance, problem resolution, and upgrades. Explore emerging technologies in computing, systems administration, and other security through readings in professional journals and product. documentation. Performs related duties assigned by the Manager of Systems. Job Requirements: EDUCATION: A minimum of an Associate's degree required. Degrees in Computing or Information Technology preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years' experience with an Associate's degree, three with a Bachelor's (seven years preferred) in Systems Administration with a strong focus on managing Windows servers, Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, and VMware. Project Management skills and a strong background in Systems Security is a must. Experience working as an IT specialist in the SUNY system is desired. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to read and digest complicated technical documents; demonstrated customer service orientation; experience with student information systems such as Banner and Brightspace; high level proficiency using M365 suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams); strong understanding of all modern Windows operating systems (both server and desktop); strong understanding of Active Directory, MS Azure and VMware; basic understanding of the Linux operating system and PowerShell; strong organizational skills; ability to maintain flexible work schedule to accommodate service demands (including some evenings and weekends); demonstrated ability to be approachable, customer focused, adaptable, and patient; ability to learn new technical skills quickly; ability to work independently to prioritize tasks and problem-solve; ability to function at a high-level in a fast-paced environment; ability to collaborate with multiple teams; ability to lift 50lbs, stand, bend, stoop, and sit for long periods of time (with or without reasonable accommodations); ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department mission; willingness to research and deploy accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically. Additional Information: RELATIONSHIPS: The Senior Systems Administrator functionally reports to the Manager of Systems and works with other Computer Services staff in performing maintenance operations, software installations, and network security. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required. Occasional travel to off-campus sites is required. SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a year-round appointment. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
